Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Remote is not the answer

It will ensure we lose our jobs to cheaper labor from overseas. Let's face it, we can get into the office, and they can not! Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it, and then be on the street.

Executives want people back in the office solely to stroke their egos. They can’t have people kissing their as--s all the time if they are remote. They get their daily affirmations in the office with their secretaries getting their coffee and lunch, people stepping out of their way in the hallways and lighting up to say hello to the king and they won’t be able to have a room full of sheep waiting on them for any meetings which they arrive late for.

Remote is the way of today, and so is global labor arbitrage. Neither of these two trends can be kept at bay going forward.

@1hea Overseas is privileged compared to US. We lost corporate phones, India gained them.

Not to stir any pot. But as a long time Wells Fargo manager, I admit that the OP does make some sense.

Those people working overseas are driving 2 hours to a stacked office for 25 hr. That is why!

Clearly WF has agents working this board to minimize impacts to image and brand. If we talk everyone will know what's happening behind the vail of transparency.

I love how remote overseas is good and remove stateside is bad.

If they totally outsource overseas, they will just have to find customers there as well. No one here will have any money to open an account, get a mortgage, or fund an investment. I hope they thought of that.

Yes, because not paying office overheads on your US employees is less profitable than :: checks notes :: paying for office overheads in India.

@tya+1eSIVl7j But, a lot of overseas hiring has taken place as well as layoffs of techs in this country. How sure can we be and how far are you willing to bet on your position.

#1 no one can understand what the fu-k these clowns overseas say at all. its like they are shouting through a water hose into a fan. #2 it takes 8 overseas engineers to replace 1 american engineer in output #3 every country besides america quits at quitting time no matter if things are broken or not. So wf cant afford to outsource everything. the bank wouldnt last a week

If remote was what caused outsourcing, then we wouldn't have had any in office jobs outsourced prior to the pandemic, but that's not the case. Several contact centers have both in country and outsourced employees and have for several years prior to sending employees to work remotely.

Discount labor with discount skills. Good thing you can replace us at 2 to 1 or more, because it'll take more of them to do anything requiring skilled labor.

I do. “ Be careful what you wish for because you just might get it, and then be on the street.” The OP is threatening that people may lose their jobs if they continue to push for WFH during the pandemic.

This is no less a threat than my manager telling me not to report OT, or I might just end up on the street.

So tired of the WF mentality of "just be thankful you have a job". I work hard and am not paid enough as it is. A company should value their employees and not treat them like they are simply doing them a favor by letting them keep their jobs.

Well, getting into the office adds no value since none of my colleagues or clients are anywhere nearby. It adds time and expense for me and marginal real estate costs for the bank. If they can get someone offshore to do my job more cheaply and do it sufficiently well, then they can do that. Going to a cube farm to take Teams Meetings isn't going to change the value proposition for either of us.

Do you really see anything in that post that could even be remotely construed as a threat? It's an opinion. It may not be yours but it's no less valid.

Maybe OP has a point. Maybe not. But if China will do it for $1 per hour, and USA for $2 per hour, and it is simply a matter of logging on. Well, maybe the US workers get crowded out by those willing to do it at a cheaper price. This is simple economics.

Post ID: @qmy+1eSIVl7j and OP?

If you consider employees standing up for themselves and their health to not be forced to come to in to the office during a contagious pandemic to be “snowflakes”, then I guess that is what I am.

Question: Do you think we should all agree to a 60% wage cut so as to not lose our jobs to overseas labor? Don’t place too much value on yourself - from what I understand, the employees in India are faster, more accurate, don’t ask too many questions and have better manners.

Remote is TOTALLY the answer. Read the room, friend. If WF wants to shuffle our positions off to cheaper labor markets overseas and sever domestic employees, that’s FINE. That’s what most of us are waiting for. Call our bluff. Everyone gets what they want then.🤷🏻

Threatening? You must be quite the snowflake.

It's actually a valid point. What percentage of people who leave through natural attrition do you think get replaced with offshore resources?

Gee - I wonder which undereducated outdated narcissistic Yes-Man posted this? It reminds me of the stories from various male executives talking about women who dared to file se-ual harassment complaints and then were the first to be fired next time there were layoffs. Or maybe diverse candidates should not speak up for themselves if someone is calling them derogatory names, because they should just be grateful they got a job in the first place?

I hope this OP is tracked down and exposed for threatening WFC employees ASAP.
