Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Disappointed with my review

I had my review and I am really disappointed. I didn’t expect such a bad review because I was working harder than ever. I gave 110% of myself because I wanted to keep this job and it was obviously not enough... On the other hand, a colleague who always "brags" about putting in minimum effort, his review is excellent. How to understand that?

Your manager may have been given a target distribution of scores -- grading on the curve, not individual results.

There's the word that ALWAYS comes up..."exposure". Used by all levels of management to not so discreetly signal that nepotism and politics drive your career at BofA.

Not getting the jobs or raises you want? Let's put a plan in place to get you more exposure.

Me too...I wonder if its because I didn't update my vaccine status and let my manager know BM was a bad leader...wondering how bad compensation will be for pushing back on our poor leadership..

It's ridiculous.
A pedicure is not visible, but makes me better worker.
A manicure however.
They say being bi-pedal is what made us climb down from the trees.

I learned that it’s really not the day to day they care about, but executive management and their projects. It’s all about upper management; that’s where it counts..

110% on upper mgmt projects with ‘visibility’ - minimum on everything else

I'd recommend you go to your manager and ask for help in putting together what exceeds exceeds looks like. You aren't measured by effort or time. I've been in this place now going on my 15th year and have been laid off twice. Your manager needs highlights to sell you to upper management for exceeds exceeds ratings and you are put up against the performance of others in your band level within the same line of business heirarchy. There is definitely subjectivity to it, but you need to keep pushing for your performance plan to state as much as what you need to achieve to get a satisfactory rating and exceeds. It would drive me crazy when I kept getting meet meet or even crazier a meets and exceeds rating meaning that I met what I was expected to do, but HoW I met my goals was done in a manner that exceeded expectation. I think the true problem is that the ratings are graded on a curve among other people who may not be in the exact same role, but are in the same pay band in your org. Speak up and get your manager to work with you for this coming year. I hate to say it but you gotta be your own PR rep at times and keep pushing your achievements and seek feedback from your manager often .

I wouldn't worry about that review you received. This company is azz backwards like I have been saying for months on this board. I have repeatedly seen them promote people who don't know their azz from a ho-e in the wall. There is no logic in who is promoted . I have seen mofos that can't speak English, read, manage and lead. The only logic is do less and care less and you will get promoted in this SHLITHOLE.

He brags about it, but have you confirmed they do minimal work? Some people will say stuff like that to make themselves look extra capable, but in reality they are working just as hard, or possibly have a quicker or more efficient way to accomplish the same tasks

Sorry to hear about your review but how do you know you colleague's review was excellent - did you actually read it? If not, I wouldn't take their word for it as they may perceive the review differently than you would have.
