What attracts younger people to Cisco?

It is not true that all new hires are bad. I have a great new young colleague who is very talented and promising. I don't believe he will stay here long though. What interests me is what attracts such people to Cisco now? I think that this company no longer has anything to attract such people.

Free coffee and snacks in the break rooms.

You've been gone a while. Used to be, we had 28 varieties or flavors of soft drinks, fruit juices, coffee and bottled water along with microwave popcorn. Then the drinks/bottled water was removed in favor of filtered water & Starbucks coffee, but they kept the popcorn.

Now we're all working from home and the water coolers are probably nasty because no one's there to run water through them enough to keep the water fresh. All the vending machines are empty because there's not enough "critical workers" in any given building to keep the items from expiring.

The good old "glory days" are long gone.

College students... ie Cisco's desired cheap labor... don't know what they are doing because they haven't done much yet.

We take them on, let them sc--w up and make all thier mistakes at Cisco, then they leave for greener pastures (ie -our competitors) after a couple years because they pay better.

Our leadership is running this company into the ground by making stupid and short sighted decisions.

Someone thinks that college is producing great talent.

Actually most universities are producing GAMERS.

Rote learning and d-mbed down curriculum prevails.

Forbes Top Company to Work for ranking. Recruiters use that ranking to promote the company to younger applicants. It usually takes the younger employee two years to realize the company is a disaster.

Everybody has to start somewhere. If I was a recent college grad and got my first job offer from Cisco I would take it, get that steady paycheck while gaining experience, and get out of dodge as quickly as possible.
