Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

What is up with everyone calling themselves “servant leaders”?

Since when did that become a thing? Is there no other acceptable form of leadership style? Also what does it mean cause half these people definitely don’t fit the google definition of a servant leader so can someone explain it to us, asking for a friend(s) - Ha!

JD's a huge fan of describing himself as our "servant" leader. You know, the servant who makes $56M+ per year. He prolly imagines it will make him seem humble. Uhm... no.

Someone read it in the Harvard Biz Review or some sh-t then started to regurgitate it to sound intelligent or authentic. Fail on all counts.

it came into fashion under jd. but long before the trend at nike is to mimic what the top say. when shoedog came out people were saying how it was life changing (such cringe). remember "triple double offensive" and "big picture thinking"? the place is full of worthless people spewing worthless catchphrases and inventing their own alphabet soup acronyms (that often ends up in an acronym having multiple meanings used by multiple teams) spending 60% of their time making decks and the other 40% gossiping about who to latch onto to further themselves in the political game of musical chairs

It's the classic cartoon where in one panel the boss is being pulled along by his workers, barking orders, while in the other panel the boss is in front of his workers leading them.

Which do you want to work for?

Let's, for a moment, put aside any definitions you have "googled" for Servant Leadership just to simplify things a bit. It is not about an acceptable or unacceptable forms of leadership; that just complicates things a bit because who, at the end of the day, determines what is acceptable or unacceptable. I argue only those in the care of the said leader can rightfully deem their leader as acceptable or not.

Now, as to what Servant Leadership is, it is about trusting, empowering, propelling, and shinning the light on the people under you care. It is about furnishing a work environment where the team is the star not the said leader. People misunderstand that this is a "weak" leadership style; it is not. Accountability has to also play a big part of it and so does decision-making especially the difficult ones. It is not a secret that a happy team (a lot goes into building a happy team) is a productive team. I challenge anyone to show me a happy and productive team under a leader who treats them horribly and by only looking out for his/her/their/etc. interest.

Again, Servant Leadership is not the only form of leadership. However, at least for me, it is the most effective one when it is true and when the leader is genuinely a servant leader not just likes the sound of it or because it is a "buzz term."

I hope this helps, friend.
