Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

What they won't tell you in the interview

https://www.reddit.com/r/ChemicalEngineering/comments/nilpoe/exxon_people_whats_going_on_with_everyone_leaving/

XOM is in decline. Pay is not keeping pace with inflation so you are making less than the generations before you. Employees are leaving in droves, many taking voluntary early retirement because they genuinely HATE this company. This has left XOM shorthanded so they are looking to hire a few mature employees to train up the cheaper newbies. HR has seriously miscalculated and fouled things up. The company doesn't grasp how emotion drives most actions and decisions, and like a sociopath is pi----g off its employees.

If you join XOM, you will get less pay, less training, and be expendable. You work in a pool of negative emotion which will take its toll.

Two things ki-l a company: business decisions at odds with its market, and corporate culture/interests at odds with the employees' interests. The nonalignment of interests is driving bad decisions, driving people away, putting the wrong individuals in the wrong positions. The employees didn't change.

Peruse the threads below. Get a fuller sense of the corporate cultural problems this company suffers from. Any job is better than no job but if you have any self respect, stay away. If you have to take a job here, make it as short a stint as possible.

@kzq+1eaIRIyz A lot of new grads know. Some of them use it as a spring board to get to where they really want to be. Just ask the Baton Rouge complex.

EM is obliquely asking for the age of the applicant by asking their citizenship and the date it was acquired (often one’s birthdate, and they even say as much in the application). This means they’re screening for specific age groups, which is technically illegal, but they’re getting away it.

PSA: if the job doesn’t require a government security clearance then the date you acquired your citizenship is irrelevant. Maybe next time I’ll take a screenshot and send it to the EEOC.

I recently noticed two recent college grads on LinkedIn announcing they had accepted an offer. Surprised no one notified them
