Thread regarding Ford layoffs

I'm ready to move on

I've got a new job I'll start in January. Unlike many here, I bear no ill will towards Ford. For a good part of my life, this has been a great job that allowed me to do what I love and meet many amazing people. For that, I can only say thank you. Things have changed lately, which is one of the reasons why I'm leaving, but that doesn't erase all the good years I've spent here. All of you who are staying, I wish you nothing but the best.

Completely agree with @7ucj. The name over the door is different, but the issues are all the same. Remember when you started at a company and were happy to have a job? Then once you were there a while you figured out what really goes on, who actually worked, who the chronic complainers are and who are the ones that are just there to stroke the boss. Think that Ford people are the only ones to take hours long coffee breaks or go for those parking lot strolls, think again. Good luck...

Go where you want, but I tell you the so called "bad" situation is the same everywhere.
Ford has a great pay and benefits. And has embarked on a great journey now.....heard about Ford Pro in collaboration with Salesforce??....its a gamechanger.....we will transition into a tech company as good as if not better than Google and the half eaten Apple. But you will agree its a big ship and takes time to change directions.

Stay at Ford, awesome things to come!

I've been at Ford for several years. Not pension eligible. I am actively interviewing. Ford has changed so much in the years I have been here. The Jims have not been good for employee morale. And Bill continues to guide Ford as if it is his own personal charitable foundation. This will not end well for Ford. They want to do everything and pay nothing for it. Yet they want to be Google, and Apple, and Tesla. Those companies reinvest in their people. I expect there to be 25% attrition this year. Along with people losing their jobs due to vaccination status, forcing people back into the office in March, and the competition for talent, it could be even higher. This will mean a huge dent in Ford's plans for the future.

There is a storm coming, and Jim and Bill don't seem to see the clouds forming on the horizon.

Like the individual who posted this. I hope they offer a package. Time to move on. Not the same company i hired into. Was not always like this. I worked for some really good people but since Ford 2000 it is more like a Crapp shoot now.
I tell young people to try and pick a boss whose management style they like. Also, actions speak more than words. At the end of the day, they may find out that Ford may not be the place for them. So be prepared to move on.
For those nearing 55yrs. of age and 30 years I wish them the best. those milestones are big and could be a gamechanger if they do not hit those targets. I also do not know where the company is going but I hope they pull it off a lot of families rely on that place. Good luck

I walked away from many companies, and I walked away from many countries. I found out the problems still need to be fixed because the places I can run to are running out.

@OP and all previous comments. I am not angry for me, nor for my family. I have been lucky during the pandemic: none of my friends or family have died of Covid-19. I was able to WFH, and we have been living in Florida for more than a year now. We went on vacation and I am enjoying the time with my family. I was able to sell my house in MI after prices went up. I bought a house at the beginning of the year, and now it is worth much more. Life is good!

I don't feel angry at other GSRs, nor to many of the LL6s. There are good people at Ford. I am angry with upper management because they are screwing the company, forcing good employees to leave, making life harder for a lot of good employees that cannot leave (pension, obligations, debt, personal reasons), going back on their words to retirees, and the only reason this is happening is because of the "friends and family" inepts getting promoted over the right people.

I am angry with politicians (both parties) because they are playing games, instead of fixing the country. I am angry with the media for the never ending stream of lies and half truths. I am angry at my countrymen because they let fear dictate their choices, and surrender their rights for a hope of control and safety.

I am angry because I care. I want the best for my country, and for my company (technically, it is also mine even when my name s not in the façade of the building, just a tiny little bit as a shareholder). How can I be proud any longer with all the infighting, when we just keep making bad choices?

I can walk away from Ford (I don't have plans for coming back to the office), but I cannot walk away from my country. So even in another company, the bad decisions are still affecting me (vaxx mandate, inflation, divisions, woke culture, cancel culture). So that's why I speak up, that's why I am "negative" in my comments.

I wish all of you the best luck in the new places.

Same here - working at Ford for the most part has been a great experience and I’m so grateful for the opportunity. But I don’t agree with the direction the company is going, so I have decided to pursue other avenues. Good luck to you!.

Finally, someone who is not angry and bitter!

I recently retired after 16 years with Ford. I'm not pleased the way things have seemed to change for the worse but share your sentiments completely.

I get a lot of negative comment when I say that "Ford" is on the building. If you don't like the way things are, and you are not is a position to change them, your only option is to leave and find a more positive work experience.

Best of luck to you!
