Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Job market is not so good for network engineers

I keep hearing about how great the job market is right now but I'm not seeing it. Yes, for people in retail or manufacturing this is probably better than it ever was, but I've been hitting a wall for six months trying to get a decent offer. I've been doing my best to take advantage of the "employees' market" but it's a no-go.

I'd suggest transitioning to some other kind of role. Cisco networking background is very legacy.

But there are lots of jobs that are in related sectors. Just need to broaden your scope a bit.

If that doesn't work maybe one of the cisco partners or competitors.

is anyone taking CCIE? making me think ccie = Novell cert.. or Microsoft Windows system engineer (MCSE). ...

I thought they laid off all the CCIE and closed all the labs and retired all the good exams. and left are the garbage certificate like Cisco Dev net ..

the director who laid these people off also left and moved to oracle and make big bucks there..

before he ki---d CCIE, he also sort of suck the blood out of CMS and let it die.

certain time, I was told by my buddy, Cisco purposely hire these VPs to get rid a organization..

Become a Business Architect and find a job. All you have to do is talk rubbish, understand nothing and suck up to the management. You can also change your designation to CTO if you so wish and at the same time not be technical. Welcome to modern day Cisco, a has been tech company, now a glorified garbage recycling plant.

CCIE still good? When I see CCIE on a resume today with no other more modern skills, I cringe. If you can't automate systems in 2021, you missed a massive transition in the industry.

A lot of these jobs have been exported. If you move to India, your chances of getting a job here may improve. Seriously.

Container Networking Interface, dude. Educate yourself. Cloud is screwing container networks up. Learn Cilium, Learn service meshes, learn how ingresses work. Learn how any cast can be applied. They need you!

Legacy networking knowledge is worthless today. If you don't know public cloud, REST APIs and modern automation tools then congrats you've made yourself obsolete. It's never too late to catch up but now you're looking at 6 months of studying.

Ramp up on AWS certs. Use cantrill study prep course and take ~7 months to get your aws architect associate and professional. Don't count on getting job with aws because they want plenty coding experience and masters degree ..but you might be able to get on with aws if u impress with professional level.. IMO aws cert is the best and easiest way for networking engineer to get interview doors open.
