Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Maybe too big but obviously not too stupid to fail!

Treating people like cogs in a wheel in one thing... rubbing their noses in it is not only rude... it's stupid.
Not giving enough advance notice for folks to adequately plan for the stupid RTO (or G(o)TO for those that were WFH) is an a--hat move that sends the message loud and clear.

Can we please stop modeling after BAC? The culture there is sh-t. People hate their jobs and their company. I moved to WF because of the wonderful culture and people we have.

Incompetence reigns supreme. They tried to force everyone to quit, nobody quit, so they're doubling-down on that failed strategy rather than take the short-term hit.

How can it possibly be cheaper to keep waiting for people to quit?

IMO they are absolutely trying to force attrition. In the Q2 earnings call Charley flat out said with the way they are doing things people are going to self-select when asked about progress on reducing head count to be more in line with our peers (BOA was used as the comparison).

You find it hard to believe they’re trying to force attrition? Really? Even after at the beginning of the year Chuck and his cronies literally said a main goal this year was to reduce the workforce, and it’s been mentioned over and over in leadership meetings they weren’t achieving their goal of downsizing at the level he wanted? You really think that moving up RTO and changing the benefits structure just before the holidays was done just because? Maybe you need to look at his past performance at Visa to see this is exactly the same thing he did there when trying to reduce their workforce as a way to fluff the balance sheet.

@1cnd+1ec7b7uv - As with all things Chuckie does, he takes the lazy a-s way out.

If Managers have workers who are full time remote (pre-COVID), those Managers agreed to that arrangement and must have been comfortable with the performance of those employees (that was all part of the paperwork).

If you think this recent RTO date advancement isn’t done to drive attrition, you have your head in the sand.

Collaboration is not done near the water cooler or random conversations in the hall - that’s just a marketing line Chuckie’s cronies came up with to make this sound positive. True collaboration is done through the building and establishment of relationships, trust, and common purpose. None of those attributes are present at Wells with current leadership. No RTO directive will magically make that happen.

Chuckie knows all of this and he doesn’t give a sh-t… that’s the real kicker!

@1hyp+1ec7b7uv That seems to be a completely different ball of wax from ending WFH due to Covid. I find it hard to believe, as some do, that they are attempting to force attrition.

I tend to think some people are taking advantage, and rather than taking the trouble to single out the people not pulling their weight they are just ending WFH for everyone. Maybe because that’s what happened in my group. A few people who took advantage ruined it for everyone.

Filings will soon reveal the C suite has purchased stock in extortionate last minute childcare providers, purveyors of strong spirits, and people who pull the fire alarm.

Look up the difference between customer facing service jobs and corporate technology jobs. That’s your answer why it’s not important for tech to be physically in a cubicle staring at a computer all day.

“Anyone with a child knows working with them is near impossible”

You just made my point for me.

Wonder why WF is pushing RTO so hard? Because too many people are NOT working from home, because they are busy minding the children.

People who are hired on a work from home basis sign contracts stating that they have proper childcare in place and will be available to actually work the same hours they would if they were in an office.

People who have been working from home because of Covid have had almost two years of getting paid to stay home with their kids. That’s not sustainable.

Actually similar to the below, I also don’t watch my own child and was able to work this out with my babysitter and spouses schedule/work by the grace of god, but we can’t factor in commute times with what we’ve been doing at the moment for January. We have someone set up for February.

Sooooo no. Anyone with a child knows working with them is near impossible lol don’t be so quick to speak ;)

Anybody complaining that they can’t find childcare is admitting that they are spending their time at home doing childcare.

And they have no idea what is wrong with that picture.

Hint: Wells Fargo doesn’t pay you to mind your offspring.

Have you not ever heard of after school care? You know, because you got a commute again a month early. This is why we need part time daycare. I’m guessing you’ve never had to figure this out/do this yourself.

Why exactly does Tech think they're special. People in the branches have been showing up for the past 2 years. Everyone else has to go back, why exactly does technology think they're special.

Who's watching your kid now? Obviously you aren't because you're supposed to be working...and you wonder why they want people back into the office. What is wrong with you people?

And when your daycare arrangement is set for February, I suppose the toddler can just watch themselves for a month unless a magical opening comes up before then. Oh well.

Very few people are excited to RTO, but I'm guessing that most people that are losing their minds in this thread could "prepare" for a month long vacation to Europe with less than 30 days of notice, so you'll figure out that drive across town just fine. Whether it's the holiday season doesn't really have anything to do with it. Lord Fauci told you to cancel Christmas gatherings due to Omicron anyway, so surely you don't have travel plans etc. for the HolyDays anyway, right? Ok then, you have 30 days to get enough gas in the tank for the trip. You can do it.

Do they not know how hard it is to find childcare with only a 30 day notice during the fkn holidays?? This is ridiculously rude and wrong.

This was it for me. Randomly deciding to move up RTO for my team, forcing me to scramble to find places to park and work out the logistics with my family, making every plan we had in place for a return later in the quarter useless is enough.

I’ve been tolerant of all these of this and was willing to tough it out. Not anymore.

The only thing worse than the comments we get in memos and on teamworks from “leadership” are the bootlickers that get on this board claiming we should all be grateful to be employed. There are plenty of jobs available for anyone with skills and talent. I hope the sycophants that see this on the side of Chuck’s poor leadership enjoy being disrespected and working only with people too unqualified to get jobs elsewhere. Have fun.

You are correct and this is planned. There is not nearly enough seats at my location - over 35% overfilled. And we are expected to coordinate available space with others outside of our reporting groups too, just to make sure we can all be in seats and fill them up as often as possible.

It seems like we are all supposed to come in on the same day - January 10th? I thought they said they did not have enough seats for this. There does not seem to be any coordination of what days to come in, which will lead to issues like not finding seats or at my building, parking problems.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I'm not concerned with the RTO even though I will be losing the flexibility I've had for 10+ yrs. When you're told you'd be one month after the initial wave in Jan, you plan for that. Then right before the holidays you're told...just kidding, we want you back in 30 days but we're letting you know so you can plan. This is the kind of decision making that makes people not trust leaders.

Perhaps I wasn't clear enough for the peanut gallery... If you are told there's going to be a phased approach beginning 1/10 but your group won't be phased in until later in the quarter.. suddenly being informed - in the midst of the holidays that you now need to find a way to move up the plans previously made is a di--head move.
I don't care for myself but I have coworkers that will be negatively impacted. Forgive my for showing concern/compassion for them.
BTW.. sorry you chose a location based job. Me and my coworkers did not.

Not enough time? You must work in tech where it takes you 8 years to figure how to integrate an obsolete system.
