Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Is Ford really that desperate?

I understand the need for new employees. I also understand that it is not realistic to expect that the new hires will come with a huge experience. I respect that people need to gain their first experiences somewhere. However, has Ford become so desperate as to hire almost anyone who applies? It is a great insult to all the hardworking and talented employees that this company got rid of in a very ugly way.

Why pay experienced to it right once, when you can pay the inexperienced to do it three times, at three times the cost?

If they want experienced employees, just stop offering retirement packages. AND don’t bar the experienced employees from never working for Ford again in the offer. I’m sure there is among the people who left the company would be willing to work at least on a part time basis.

@1lko+1edMjekk - Yep, lotta throwing warm bodies regardless of ability at every role rather than just those that don't require specific skills and knowledge to be effective.

What frustrates me more is that at the same time the highest level of mgmt & HR seem more than willing to force highly skilled & experienced people out the door if they don't do as told in a "certain hot topic area" merely to ensure they can keep the flow of easy gov't money flowing in. I guess that's easier than actually producing quality products that don't have constant warranty issues.

No one with talent is available. Now they're just hiring anyone with a regular pulse that can actually function.

We just brought in two green candidates. Don't know a thing about anything. Manager said there's no one else they could find.

They say only 20 percent of the employees of any large company actually do the valuable work. I find it funny your only complaint is with new hires when 80 percent of the workforce doesnt contribute much value.

Come on, this isn't anything new. Any large corporation does this knowing that a percentage of the hires turn out to be useless, but keep them anyway. The companies rely on sheer numbers in order to get things done and the bigger the company, the easier it is to get lost in the system. Is this fair? Nope, but that is the way it goes. Working for a big company isn't like being in a democracy, but you knew that coming in the door. Keep you head down and keep plugging away and Good luck.
