Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Kyndryl already kicking IBM to the curb

This is a big FU to IBM and the demise of IBM Cloud (the shoddy smoke screen that it is)

"Kyndryl and Google Cloud are proud to announce our global strategic partnership to help customers accelerate their digital transformations and become more advanced, data-driven, and sustainable businesses."

"In 2022 IBM will lose their largest customer...Kyndryl"
Actually it's quite the opposite. IBM is a customer of Kyndryl. Not their largest, but to the tune of almost 1/2B in 3 months

Kyndryl is a rocket ship. You had better get onboard before it's too late. Just look at their stock price (sarcasm included).

If anyone out there in IT land thinks that this third-rate castoff IT outsourcer is ever going to make a difference in tech they have not worked in those orgs in the past.

oh. Kyndryl is just cutting away the dead weight. Smart move on their part. In 2022, IBM will lose their largest customer...Kyndryl.

Why does this surprise anyone? IBM is focused on proprietary HW/SW solutions centered around IBM’s HW/SW monopoly. Google/Kyndryl is focused on the commodity HW/SW market place that IBM public cloud offerings have let fall thru the cracks, or that customers can justify moving towards. There was an old but accurate belief in Z land that said once you fall far enough behind, it’s impossible to catch up no matter what you spend or buy. You are witnessing with this announcement, Kyndryl and IBM (indirectly) admitting that belief in public cloud. They have fallen so far behind, that they can never catch up, thus the partnering with Amazon/Google/Microsoft.

The IBM Cloud will not last for ever... It may actually be the next thing IBM jettisoned.

Not surprising. IBM itself has been downplaying IBM Cloud in favor of partnering with AWS/Azure/GCP for a year+ now. Idea was to run Cloudpaks on these platforms but it's mostly GBS building native solutions on them, lol.
