Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

He/him/she/her

Why do you include this pronoun nonsense in your LinkedIn profile and now some of you are including it in your email signatures?

Looks ridiculous!

Trying to guess gender identity for some people is part of our fun. Just like the "Pat" skit from SNL . They were poking fun at this d-mb sh!t 30 years ago. Don't take this sh!t too seriously folks. It's just a PC fad.

It is a sad day when we must add what gender you "identify" as in an email signature block.
Who cares?!?
I am a 1999 Suburban that identifies as a Tesla!!! But, I do not need to include that in an email signature block or anywhere else.

It's just empty pandering and virtue signalling. "Look at me ! I'm a LGBTQ+ Ally !" I don't understand why anyone gets worked up these pronouns as mostly they are used when the person concerned isn't even in the conversation. I guess it's another case of people ("Allies") getting offended on someone else's behalf.

In my email signature, I just put “white male”.
That way people know not to mess with me and my privilege.

I know one. One of the worst person with no morals and total fraud at RTD has this and every other coke sucking behavior you can think about displayed in abundance over LinkedIn.

Sometimes even the lab technicians have to deal with frauds as supervisors because those management wanna be are not good to be absorbed in any other real job

There’s another thread discussing why so many people on this site, apparently EM employees, are so rude and insulting. So, in your case, what’s the reason? Whatever your opinions are, why can’t you express them in a decent way?

Virtue signaling plus greed plus shear fear.
One Dallas-bound manager suggests posting pronouns in signatures, giving the example. Supervisors follow suit. High potential people come next, they want to be promoted too. After those who want to make sure they get rewards already promised come those who are afraid, so they jump on board as well, in order not to stand out and put themselves at risk.
You can think whatever you want about the value of the gesture. Once it gets the approval stamp from the above, nobody can even tell if it’s sincere or not.

It’s a weird world where it is not enough to be accepting of all. It feels like I have to prove I am accepting of all through a series of small tests.

I’m sorry this stuff is ridiculous. Do you know there are high school students at my daughters’ school that go by kitten/kittenshe (it’s not a joke, they identify as cats)? Where does it end?

PS I’m sure this will get deleted just like my other post rooted in actual scientific fact.

I do it so people know that I am a he/him. Also so other people don’t feel weird adding it if their pronouns aren’t obvious. Not a big deal

If you don’t like it or chose not to understand it, why do you care? LinkedIn is a good place to use pronouns because of the global reach. Additionally, for people who want to be aware and inclusive of others’ identities, it’s necessary. If this is not you, then fine. Don’t do it. And then don’t get offended when someone gets yours wrong.

Problem with most people is they lack empathy. If me including that in my signature makes others feel they are being included then it’s great. Stop trying to find the negatives for everything. I don’t understand the pronoun things myself, but being inclusive is better. You’re probably an anti vaxxer and thinks you actually contribute to the bottom line. Just leave and go work on a farm in the Midwest if you don’t like these things lol

Maybe I don’t want you to know my pronoun. If you don’t know me, I want you to take my email at face value with respect to the content it is delivering.

I don’t take offense to you thinking I am man, woman or house fly. In fact, I really don’t want you thinking about my gender/identity at all. And I certainly don’t want it distracting from what I have to say.

So for everyone who thinks it is rude that I don’t want to play along with pronouns, know that I have reasons that seem equally valid and inclusive to me.

Q. Why do people ask this question constantly instead of just googling it?

A. Because they want to show they don’t like it without actually saying it. Which, when you think about it, is a form of virtue signaling

A couple of days ago I was late to meeting when I joined they were talking about how they didn't know what to call me because I had not yet defined my pronouns so that's why I updated my signature.

The only reason I can see is if you have a forename that doesn't allow the majority of your contacts to easily guess if you're a male or female. Now that we are more and more working with GBCs in countries like India, Thailand and so on it might make sense.
Any other reason is nonsensical to me.
