Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

If you were remote BEFORE covid, there's no current plan to return to office.

Boss told me this in our meeting yesterday. I've been remote for 9 years. He confirmed as of now, there's no word about return to office.

Everyone thinks that since they got scr3w3d that that means everyone is getting treated the same way. I am just a lowly IC, but I know on my team of fully remote individuals (~200), only the 10% or so that was in an office beforehand and are close to an office are going back to an office. The rest of us will eventually leave because there is no hope for any career progression since any new fully remote position requires OC approval. So people will leave on their own over the next 18-24 months because there is only so long talented employees with other options will hang around once it is clear you aren’t wanted because of where you live.

Dear HR, why do you tell me to talk to my manager if I am within 30 miles of a hub location yet listed as remote? FYI, mngr is clueless. Tells me to talk to HR and round and round I go.

part of the problem is every lob and group is doing something different so there is no consistent approach.

In my opinion there is no plan whatsoever. At some level Sr Mgt may believe that there is a plan, but as this board demonstrates… there are obviously many conflicting “Plans”.

The messaging on this is contradictory and nonsensical. Who dropped the ball on this… HR, Corp Communications or just Senior Management winging it indecisively?

Go to the RTO website, it will have a location assigned to you.

Been remote the entire time I been at wells and I am still listed as “remote” even though I am within 40 miles of an office. If they expect people in this situation to show up somewhere January 10th, they better give people more direction of where to go. Many cities have multiple offices and designated floors. I have received no communication on this and would have no idea where to go.

@qmq Do you have any idea of when? I have a coworker that is outside the mileage but technically in a hub. Everyone is required to go back on my team. She is approved (for now-her/my manager’s words) to stay remote. I’m wondering if she will be required to come in soon or a year from now. She would be someone they'd love to let go of. They already laid off hundreds that weren't in a hub in my division.

If you're not in a hub, your time is short anyway.

Well, I was FT remote prior to COVID. A few months ago mgr told me that I would be assigned to a specific office in my area. But my status on the “our workplace” still shows me listed as a remote worker as of today.

So it is all very confusing- but I’m assuming that I will still be required to go into my newly assigned office because I haven’t heard anything otherwise.

Not quite.

Everyone on my team was WFH pre-COVID. For some of us, we were assigned offices, others who were 40+ miles from an office were still listed as remote.

Each of us assigned to an office filed for an exception and were approved.

It wasn't by default.

Totally false. I'm in HR. ONLY those within prohibitive distance from office are not reqd to RTO --temporarily. This WILL change in the future. Everyone else is reqd to RTO and it will be tracked. If your mgr is telling you otherwise, they are not stating facts and will figure it out soon enough. Employees are also getting individual emails beginning this week (released in batches) reiterating their RTO status.

I've always had an office in a hub, I'm just never required to go there. Also not in tech. They might start making me I guess, I haven't heard anything yet. If they push it, I'll use PTO to minimize it and just deal with it.

Everything we do is tracked. Best way to resolve the issue is to be hyper-productive and work long hours at home and spend hours "at the water cooler" in the office.

Must be by LOB then. Anything can change, but there are definitely people who were 100% remote pre-covid and are staying 100% remote and not being told to go into an office.

Not true- I’m risk and was told that rto would apply

I'm in tech near a hub, do not have to RTO. Was remote well before covid.

Same situation for me as OP and I'm also not in tech. My work location also confirms this in Team works.

This is not true for all employees that were hired in remote positions pre-COVID. I'm being placed in an office with a hodge-podge of different functions, and there is not one employee that I know or work with in that building. There are a number of employees I know of in a similar situation. We are all outside of the favored hub cities.

Not true. I'm in a large city with WF office. Been remote 9 years and as I said, boss confirmed today no plan to return to office. I'm not in tech.
