Demoralizing long term employees

I am glad when someone gets the opportunity to work, earn, progress.

However, what is Mellon saying to their longtime and most loyal employees if a new hire with little or no experience is paid as much or almost as much as they are?

While management is worried about how to attract new employees, maybe they should think more about how to keep those who are already there?

Easy on @OP+1efqTHX0, he might have asperger's or something since he takes everything so literally and cannot grasp that people might be referring to the company in colloquial terms. In his mind If I call it BNY instead of BNY Mellon I guess I'm referring to something that doesn't exist since the company's full name is BNY Mellon. Then again maybe he's just a douche-rocket who gets off on nitpicking tiny details...

Those long term employees will never leave no matter what. You don't need to give them anything extra to keep them there. You can do anything you want with them. Yes, they will complain and threaten to leave but everybody knows they never will.

This happens everywhere. When I was at JPM back in the day, I was at a breakfast with the head of HR where people brought up this very issue.

We’ve understood that we’re not valued for a very long time. Outside of driving attrition why rub it in? An alternative approach of honest inclusion and respect based upon attitude and work ethic would certainly increase productivity.

As a section manager I’ve literally brought this same topic up to my bosses many times. And the bs response I get is that it’s easier to bring someone in from the outside and start them higher than it is to increase an existing employees pay. Such garbage if you ask me and they won’t even do anything to help keep existing employees either

It is because those that have been here for the long haul will continue to reap the abuse because they believe in the company and all that has been accomplished over the years. They see it as what it has been in the past, which overshadows what it is now in their minds. It is kinda like “Thank you Sir, may I have another?”

A 28 year veteran. I get it, I feel the same but we only have two choices….seek an internal advancement and wait for up to a year to (maybe) get a raise or go to another firm for more money.

(To the OP…..he does not mean the Mellon boutique that has only been in existence for a few years. Lots of people still refer to the company as Mellon or as BNY despite the 2007 acquisition and renaming. But you know that and just want to belittle the poster by asking for them to share their pay stub so we can see which of the many BNY Mellon Corp owned entities is the persons employment company).

Mellon has nothing to say to their longtime and most loyal employees if a new hire with little or no experience is paid as much or almost as much as they are. Mellon hasn’t even existed for 15 years and counting. Can you post your pay stub so that we can help you to find your employer?

I've been saying this on all these stupid surveys we do every week and get shot down by my manager....."it's all about diversity and new opinions...."
