Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Have fun and look busy

It seems to be a winning combination of how to avoid burnout and succeed at Chevron. The most important thing here is to pretend to look busy. If you’re not one of those pretenders, expect them to just bury you with work until a total burnout.

Try to ease your way into as many meetings as possible, particularly if managers are there. Volunteer for any new and trendy 'strategic' teams. This is about the only way to sneak into being a high-p-t.

@2ony, you're right. The two managers I've worked for at Chevron always have their Outlook calendars full of 'meetings'. No wonder I never see them around except for when they HAD to do PMP discussions.

This is a time-tested winner. Make sure you always have a complicated spreadsheet open on one of your monitors. Oh, and schedule many meetings, maybe 5-6 per day. You can either skip them or sleep through them, but you have to have them on your Outlook calendar. One more - make sure your Outlook calendar is full, so that if yours is open, prying eyes will see that you are "busy". Be sure to add in meetings labeled "data review" or "progress discussion". In addition to the aforementioned meetings, make sure you add all the seminars and HR meetings to your calendar. If there's like three versions of the same meeting, put all of them on your calendar.

It's always more tiring trying to avoid work than actually doing it. Well it is in the field. On occasional work in the office I found it difficult to discern the difference between those working and those merely attending the office.

I use the George Costanza method.

Sad how so many people are looking to not doing an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay. Just do your job. And push back appropriately to not get burnout. Simple……

But don’t be busy with actual work, just attend back to back meetings all day!
