Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Pat doesn’t have a credible plan

[Pat] explained somewhat confusingly, "Will it be done in four, maybe less than that? No way. Could it be six, seven, eight years I'm CEO? Maybe if we're having fun and healthy and good."

Maybe? Doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.

TSMC isn't standing still.
They are adding a shzzzt ton of capacity.
Enough to open the floodgates for AMD and not to mention Apple, QCOM, NVidia and the rest.

AMD / INTC crossover is imminent.

Tamerlane was looking for someone to teach his donkey to talk. Nobody wanted the job. Finally the wise man of the dunes - Hodja Nasreddin took the position and promised to teach the donkey to talk in 10 years time.

  • Are you crazy? his friends asked him.
  • Not really, Hodja answered, the money is good the job is not hard and in 10 years a lot might happen: I might die, or Tamerlane might die or surely enough this old donkey might die.

Three years is a crazy long time in technology. Miss a couple cycles and you go from leader to laggard and maybe worse. Only thing saving Intel is limited capacity of AMD or Intel would have been finished already! If AMD had all the 5nm capacity for their products it would be all over for Intel.

The stock price by any metric for a tech company is cheap beyond belief for such a tech titan, why is that Wall Street and Main Street like the narrative but won’t pay to own Intel they wouldn’t throw money at it.

We already know the government will and does throw good money on bad ideas and let’s be honest Intel will never again be a variable technology manufacturing cost effective leader.

The last decade saw Intel go from two to three years ahead to arguable four years behind. Think about that for a moment in ten years went a 7 year swing. The loss came as the core LTD group got pretty much everything it need from money to people.

Now they can’t attract the best people, don’t have scale, don’t have industry ecosystem, frankly the only people who use Intel are their own product teams, more because they don’t have a choice or because of lack of capacity at a better manufacturer. They’d all rather do it at Foundry with now have better technology, better customer service and better tools. Dang it is so bad even Pat is begging for more 3nm even as he tries to tell how tenuous those suppliers are while he begs for it from them.

How can the company that couldn’t do 10nm nor 7nm on time and now says it can accelerate and do a node every year, laughable and beyond credible more laughable.

Intel is a goner for a long time now. Pat is just making some fat money, his life is good. Anyone who works for at this point - shame is on them.
