How quickly will you be fired if you don’t return to office when they say you have to?

Bingo! There’s a reason they are required to be in office at specific levels. It will be to handle a lot of stuff like this. There will be some who resist or try to fudge a report, but they will quickly be made into an example of what not to do.

Correct Tableau reports will do the needful and reports will be delivered to the level 4/5 managers.

Who says it has to be a human resource? It can be a report compiled from multiple sources that runs and dishes out the needed info on a daily basis.

Given the sad state of IT right now, would they really dedicate resources to police who's logging in from where? Wouldn't it be a lot easier to pull a badge scan report?

@ksl+1ehvFmJ0 - Old stock grants also vest on 3/15/2022. The stock isn’t worth what it was awarded at, but it’s something.

"I was hired as a flex remote for employee in 2018 in Minneapolis. My manager is in Charlotte and the rest are spread around the country. Can they really make me come into the downtown HQ and sit by myself?"

They absolutely can, and they're banking on your quitting.

I was hired during the pandemic and the work agreement I signed with HR says I am terminated immediately if I don't report to site on first day of official RTO for my group.

Oh you'll be forced to. You'll get one big warning, then the weight comes down on you and whoever you let slide.

They can track your location through your computer. Very easy to run report and then terminate non-compliant employees. Sadly, this is exactly what they are planning to do.

As a manager, I told my team I’ll only enforce this if I’m forced to do so.

I give it a month. When one person tests positive all heck will break loose. We can watch the mo--nic leaders scramble to come up with a new d-mb idea.

If you badge someone else in or out the will catch you. This was done before when they started stripping folks from their assigned cubes and offices. They got fired.

If everyone on the team is going into the office only three days a week, what is the gain for RTO? For any “collaboration” activities you would have to require everyone on the team to come in on the same day of the week. There isn’t going to be a day where everyone is in the office at the same time anyway? It’s a futile and outdated way of thinking. Remote work is the future for desk jockeys.

I think at first it will take a while because they clearly do not have their ducks in a row on how to catch and enforce this. They are very determined though. As soon as they work out the quirks and have a good way to figure out who truly is and is not coming in, they will start terminating pretty quickly. (Just my opinion, I don't actually have any inside info.)

Why the focus on this...? I'll tell you why.

It has nothing to do with Location Strategy, and it has nothing to do with Returning to an Office.

It has EVERYTHING to do with creating an environment to increase voluntary resignations, with the intent of reducing headcount (without paying severance) so as to get the "efficiency ratio" to a number that is similar to our competitors.

@oao+1ehvFmJ0 - Shouldn’t they be focused on fixing the regulatory issues, not getting in more trouble, fixing tech, and a host of other topics that are actually meaningful? Why focus on this bu-----t?

as a manager I have been wondering about this for some time. This far have received 0 communication regarding what to do if someone isn't meeting their 3 day per week rto requirement. they say their will be some type of reporting at some point but nothing yet that I have seen other than manually creating reports from the badge request system. if they want us to enforce these things they need to give us a way. now of you and your team are all co located it may be less of an issue but for the many managers whoanage teams spread out across the continent it becomes increasingly more difficult. my guess is they will give in a month or two to see what the rto rates are and depending on that will institute some type of enforcement as needed.

Depends on the LOB. Some groups are more equal than others.

That will be caught pretty quickly, considering they are also watching logins for geolocation data when you are badging in for this exact reason. Badge scans, Pulse logins, local network logins, and the information given up by the numerous trackers on your laptop/computer are what they will be examining - closely. Do it once and your manager feels the heat. Do it a second time, and you get the heat directly.

Bunch of us had an idea over beers the other night.

We're going to set up a rotation amongst ourselves, where each week one (and only one) of us goes into the office each day, but he carries the door cards for everyone on the team, and swipes everyone's card.

Everyone else that week continues working from home as usual, so the real work gets done.

The next week somebody else is the badge carrier/swiper.
