Yippee for my autoimmune disorder! It is the only thing keeping me from having to go into the over populated COVID infested environment.
Honestly, my disease is painful and scary but it's almost worth carrying it's burden compared to having to go into an office full of angst, anger and animosity.
Here's hoping my coworkers 🙏 remain safe or the a$$hats come to their senses.

Careful on health disclosures, I know that it's illegal to consider health risks as basis for layoff, but if I am a manager who needs to layoff one of these two in my team, who would I choose to let go: (a) one with auto-immune disease and who can't RTO, or (b) a healthy one who can do what 'a' does and who is able to RTO. Of course I would choose b. Just saying.
@mac+1eiHIcC1 and @mkl+1eiHIcC1: Why do you feel comments like yours at are all helpful or insightful? First of all, you assume the OP is in FMLA. I too have an autoimmune disorder and have never had to go on FMLA or leave of any sort because of it. In fact, I haven’t taken a sick day in over a decade even with that disorder. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t make me more susceptible to catching an illness though. One thing that has helped has helped in that is that I’ve been a work remote employee for almost that entire time and while you may continue to assume all remote workers are lazy and get no work done, I can assure you I am and have ALWAYS been more productive than my in-office counterparts in any role I’ve been in. Because I don’t take breaks, I don’t sit around “chatting” with people who walk by, I don’t log off and go home not to log in again until I get to work the next morning. For me, working from home means I log in the minute I get up in the morning and continue to work throughout the day and often at night because I can hear emails coming in and I can’t help but check and respond. So get over yourselves if you feel like you’re better than anyone just because you’ve been in or enjoy working in the office. I have received award after award and am constantly receiving accolades for my work and dedication. If you have been a front line worker this whole time and don’t feel bad for those of us that have had remote work arrangements (even before Covid) and now have to go into the office, get over yourselves for that too. If I chose a career where I had to interact face to face with clients or customers, that was my choice to make and I would accept I had to be in an office to do so. But I chose a career that doesn’t require that. And one where my co-workers and those I support are in many different locations….only less than 5 of which (out of over 100) are in my same location and I am in a hub. Only 2 of those 5 are assigned to the same building. So tell me how that builds collaboration when I have been literally identified as having the best relationship building skills in my organization, yet have managed to do so NEVER meeting any of them in person. The point is, if your position requires you to meet in person, then I don’t think anyone would argue you shouldn’t go into the office. If your position doesn’t require or those you work with aren’t even in your location, what’s the point? There isn’t one. So stop being upset at people who don’t want to go in. Accept you want to go in and accept their opinions and choices. Everyone has their own working preferences and if someone chooses to be in an office even if they aren’t working with their coworkers face to face, great! If they chose not to, also great! But stop with the cr@p about being better just because you want to or have been in an office the whole time. It shows your inability to be understanding and adaptable to working preferences of individuals in the modern working age.

Similar situation, though in my case, it is family members with auto-immune conditions that I am trying to protect. Since it's them, not me, that means I can't get an exemption, though. If I have to go, I will mask-up and avoid everyone else in the office like the plague--literally.
Yes, I signed a release of information. My doctor had to explain the risks and management needled to support my request.
Note to "massive eye roll" and the other responding mo--n.... your bitterness is clearly conveyed. Sucks to be you. I have worked remotely for many years and have enjoyed a career path that exceeded my hopes (considering my remote status) so pi-s up a rope.

Massive eye roll to this stupid post. Is this some sort of humble brag that you're not going into the office? You're probably not a productive employee anyway with your painful and scary auto immune disease. I'm sure your coworkers pick up your slack more often than not because you're on fmla.
Cool story and congrats. I’ve gone into the office every day since March 2020 and have loved every moment of it. Also have had the opportunity to advance my career quite a bit during that stretch.
I like working though and feel that humans should have to do it and contribute to maintain a functioning society.
