Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

HPE

Recently moved to HPE. I like it. Has some of the same big company slowness challenges, but none of the Cisco toxic culture problems. Morale is good.
Engineering has a great deal of influence in the company. Technical contributors are really appreciated. Well focused, corporate strategy with full alignment across the organization. Everyone is pulling in the same direction with very little corporate infighting.

Don't believe a word of this 'HPE is so great' propaganda. The only IT contracts they have left are simple support roles with low margin clients. All of the big enterprise-level clients angrily packed their bags and left many moons ago. HPE is run by an overstaffed array of inexperienced 'account managers', who make their living barking nonsensical directives to 3rd party contractors and staff in India when the client gets pi---d - which is about every day.

This is true from whomever i am hearing who has moved out from Cisco. i also moved out of Cisco recently. Every single manager/director/VP seems to be aligning their goals to a common direction and moving smoothly like a boat, with no conflicts, politics, infighting and each one seems to have a specific purpose. Its actually scary for someone like me, who has been in Cisco for 10+ years. For people like me, it seems they all are like a bunch of sheep running in a specific direction that everyone else is running. Its hard for me to imagine that, thats how an organization should work and they are not actually sheep, but all of them are doing their parts correctly , aligning to company's vision, moving towards a common goal.

I'm old. I've worked for a number of companies, both tech and not.

Cisco is not the absolute worst place to work, but not even close to the best.

It is poorly run. Sales people, lawyers, accountants and social justice warriors should not be running companies.

Death spiral unless the board acts and removes these fools.

The new HPE is very different from the Fiorina days. Antonio is a great leader. HPE has a unified edge to cloud strategy across all of its business segments. Lots of interesting work for aggressive technical contributors.

Good luck with that. The last time HP/HPE was a good place to work for engineers was in the 1980s, before Carly got ahold of it and wrecked it.

Is there part number system as obnoxiously overkill in unnecessary detail like Cisco's?

I would say it's the other way around. Cisco has gotten about as bad as hpe.

I need cartridges for my $29 ink printer. Can you get me a deal?

Yes. If you are technical, I recommend HPE. If not technical, probably not the right place. The new HPE doesn't have the same number of high paid, nontechnical fluff positions that Cisco has.

Are you up for recommending other folks? It'd be great to have a connection at another company - looking to get out also.
