Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Early retirement

I've been considering it, but the numbers I'm getting when I put everything down on paper are making me reconsider. I don't want to RTO and I certainly don't want to deal with this mess of a company for much longer, but I'm not sure I have a choice. I'm currently stuck in limbo. It would be nice to get some input from people who chose early retirement, though, just to know what to expect if I do go that route.

Retire from the sh!tshow and get another job. I took off 10 months. At age 62, I submitted one resume and got a good job. I took a step back, because I wanted less responsibilities than my last job and am paid appropriately. Don't let the fear of the unknown hold you back.

What I found out while retired was not spending money is easy if you put your mind to it. Reading, hiking fishing are great past times. Sleeping in is great and home cooking beats carryout or dining out. Still do those but only on occasion. I lived on less than 1000 a month (house and cars paid off, no debt). Take a leap.

Everyone I know who got out early had only one regret - that they didn't do it sooner. Go for it.

I retired at 63 1/2 - I put as much as I could in my HSA to pay for Cobra for 18 months. So happy I did and it all worked out fine. I wish you all happy holidays !!!!!

Look up the 4% rule. If you think it's too close to call, work awhile longer or find part time work with health benefits if you'd rather not stay

If your accounts don't look sufficient after this stock market run up do NOT retire. Recession is coming, and it's not far off. With inflation the way it is, you're going to want income for a while longer.

There are literally thousands of online worksheets that you can download, fill in the details and get an opinion on whether or not you can afford to retire. My papers go in 2/7/22 after the bonus check clears. Good luck.

Do this simple calculation:
If your net worth is equal to at least 25 x your yearly expenses, you’re good to retire.
