Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Is the fear justified?

I would most like to work from home forever. Although I may have more work to do, I work in a more relaxed atmosphere and that is invaluable. What scares me is that WFH opens up a greater opportunity for most jobs to be outsourced in the next few years. Some say there is no room for panic because WFH does not significantly affect job outsourcing.

Maybe you haven't been to the office in a while, but for IT offices, its already 80% Indian. Indians hire their own, promote their own. That's why they infiltrated all the tech companies and slowly built up from within. It was only recently they've been able to take on the CEO roles without fearing American's realizing what happened.

@dlb is comparing the lowest pay for a UNION rep working from HOME to the highest pay for a FOREIGN rep in the OFFICE. In other words, they are NOT including the cost of the office for the union rep, but they ARE including it for the foreign rep.
So the cost of a WFH US rep is $15 an hour or MORE... the costs of an office based foreign rep is $9 an hour or LESS! So, the cheapest union rep costs $6 an hour more than the. Highest paid foreign rep.
They are leaving costs out... benefits, but I highly doubt VZ pays as much for foreign rep benefits as they have to for union reps benefits

What you linked to only tells half the story. If the company brings us back to an office they need to spend money on maintenance, taxes, utilities, insurance, and more. Keeping us home saves them money. These clowns just don’t get it.

I think the union has to do a little more than work at home to save Jobs

@dlb+1ekYMLCV

I wonder what it looks like if you compare benefits

FEAR = (F) Fantasy (E) Experience (A) Appearing (R) Real. There is nothing to be afraid of. Fear is being used to control.

Bravery is not about not being afraid, it is about getting on with it despite your fear. Once you do, you win.

There’s always been issues with taking calls in the USA but we have the contract and things are monitored. What you’re doing is leading people on to fear themselves.

This sounds silly and suspiciously like the same thing I heard from a tub mate who’s lonely. Ed, if this is you, go for a walk and see a therapist. You really do need the help.

I assure you we have contact centers in various parts of the world.
All of them are significantly more economical than domestic centers. Even when you guys work from home, and they work from an office.
Everyone involved in national contact routing is very concerned with sending as many contacts overseas as possible (within to constraints of the contract, of course).
Obvioussly, I can't give details, but... There are some things we can do that cause issues when you're in the office, but go virtually unnoticed when you're home. So, yes, we have the opportunity to send more overseas when you're at home.
Of course, once the work is reduced, we have the opportunity to reduce domestic headcount.
So, yes, we can, do, and will send every call we can. Our bonuses and raises are tied to it.

"Cheese and rice." That's clever, I like that and will have to borrow it, very often. Thanks.
