Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

It's sad that we all have to come here to find out what's happening within our own company.

But that's organizational behavior 101: when normal channels of communication fail -- due to lack of transparency, withholding of information, or whiplash decision-making -- employees will establish their own, unofficial, channels.

It's funny because I've been able to find out about every enterprise-wide change coming down the pipeline before my manager or my manager's manager. My manager asked me who's leaking me the info! I was able to explain to him the TVC changes for 50K+ being in RSU vs cash before he heard about it. seems managers always wait until the very last day before communicating required changes to our teams. So much for transparency..

I know of a former employee who was a manager who had some team members get laid off in 2020. The situation for that team is that it took about 9 months for the layoff to happen once the decision was made to let someone go due to HR being so backed up.

It's a big company and I see comments here from people I would never hear about.

On the question of layoffs-- HR etc. has enough issues keeping up with the layoff volumes they already have. There's no way they could do everybody all at once. It wouldn't make sense anyway. As things move around, people have to figure out what's new to them, what has to be done and then even moving things around to different leaders.

I know everybody jokes about tech being affected, but there's a ton of stuff moving around even beyond the layoff things. There's even hiring of new execs in some areas.

It's called the WARN act, look it up. If you lay off more than a certain percentage of people from a given site in a 90 day period, you have to give certain notice, and all that.
So every company skirts this by doing it either in 90-day batches, or some other periodical method. So long as they keep it below the threshold, they can continue to blindside people.

"Does anyone know why WF doesn't layoff all on a single day? Is it to avoid the negative press. What human doesn't recognize how stressful it is wondering if you have a job next month? Happy for you if you don't mind be strung along for years on end."

I'm not in HR, but isn't there something about having to report when you mass layoff people? I could be mistaken, but it sort of rings a bell.

Two reasons:

  1. They want you to be stressed. So you will quit. And then they don't have to pay a severance package.
  2. The internal WF beauracracy is so bad that HR literally can't whack people fast enough. I've heard from knowledgable folks that the volume of what they want to do is simply too high for HR to handle.

I didn't realize until recently that HR is closely monitoring all the posts on this site, to gauge employee sentiment and track any possible risk issues. So it's even more galling to realize that they know exactly how everyone feels about RTO (and everything else) and simply don't care.
Hi there, HR consultant 2! (or whatever your new job title is...)

Although there is a lot of fluff on this board, there is much good information too.

From what I notice this board is MUCH more active than peer institutions…
