Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Location Strategy

I received an email message earlier today. It says “my seat” is being moved from a location that is a 15 minute drive away to one that is now almost a 90 minute drive away.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

If the seats at both locations are all “unassigned” now and on a first come, first served basis, what is the reason for having me drive 1 1/2 hours to a different location?

I have been at the current location for a few years now.

@1mlk+1elbaKxv tried this. First filled out stupid SharePoint form to get it fixed - DENIED. Escalated to manager who escalated to their manager who was the person who DENIED the SP form.

I'm just so tired of dealing with stupid here. I doubt we'll be going to the office anytime soon. At this point I'm just hoping we stay WFH through bonus so I can get a job where they at least honor the location that's in my offer letter, which is just over a year old.

Cpg seems to not do much correct but then they want us to fix their mistakes but then take credit for doing a great job.

Your manager should be able to put in a request to have you moved back to your previous location but they won't be able to do so until after January when the whole workday migration is completed.

@rhz+1elbaKxv What kind of lawyer are you? Certainly not an employment lawyer. You don’t know what you’re talking about.

Work with your manager or escalate to your manager’s manager. I have 10+ directs and a couple were mis-assigned due to over-reliance on MAC addresses that were really no longer current. I’ve been able to get people re-assigned without much hassle. It will definitely help your case if there are people you work with in the location you’re trying to get to. Selling that face-to-face time will be valuable.

Yes! A couple people (That I know of, maybe more) in my group were moved some time after the work locations were released in September. Unlike you, they received ZERO notification, nor did their managers. One person discovered it simply by looking up their Teamworks page, then escalated once they found out. It’s not as bad as your situation but still significant - a short commute now 2-3 times as long. What’s pathetic is zero notification, no explanation and nothing suggesting this could even happen in the worthless FAQs!

Just so you know, minutes doesn’t matter to them. Neither does road mileage. It’s measured ‘as the crow flies’ so while it could be 50-60 miles using roads, it may be 40-50 when measured that way. That’s good for some people who had thought they were outside the limit, but may be bad when measuring against the total trip time.

@ntc+1elbaKxv Bingo! I, as were several others in my group, was hired a year ago in a location on one side of town. 6-8 team members are on the other side of town so since more were in one location, they moved us all to that location.

It's 25-60 miles further away from the homes of the others that were in the smaller location. My commute was 30-45 minutes but will be ~90 minutes now if I choose to stay. The few that were involuntary relocated to the further office are all hanging around for bonus and are bouncing.

Smaller location still a tech location and not full, new people added there recently! Good luck to the team when ~25% of the team leave, who were all just hired in the last 12-18 months. You can't make this stuff up.

Is that over 40 miles away?

If so, it sounds like they're trying to motivate you to seek a package. >40 miles away is a material change that is grounds for requesting displacement.

Don't look that gift horse in the mouth.

Seriously? Good grief. It really is past time that we outsource 95% of our cpg functions. They don't do anything helpful anymore, just a bunch of counter productive BS. As an employee do you ever feel like CPG is serving your needs? Doesn't feel that way to me. They serve their own needs. Whatever justifies their jobs is 'the plan'.

could be a number of reasons 3 likely scenarios are your original location is closing, out space, or more than likely a good chunk of your org(whether you work with them or not) are at the new location which will help foster collaboration

It's not just manager that approves that now. It goes to CPG too and they aren't letting most sit at branches since so many are closing next year.

Find a branch close to your house. Get their MAC address. Have your manager change your MAC to that address. Problem solved.

As a lawyer, please quit talking about constructive dismissal. That would only matter if you are not in an at-will employment jurisdiction or your site was moved due to illegal discrimination. But for discrimination, the only case you have is one for unemployment benefits.

HR says you can get reassigned. That is B.S. in tech. Many have got reassigned after managers complained and approved of a closer tech location
