Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Overworked

I'm currently in the branch and we are working with 3 tellers and 1 banker. We have a branch manager but no service manager. My team is exhausted.

@zhj Actually, “smart guy” it’s because people decided to stay home and be good little housewives like your type love and the exodus of the retiring boomers. So, no. It has nothing to do with the president.

In my neighborhood the only bank with this problem is Wells. Chase just opened 2 new branches on top of the other 2 that are all within ~10 miles of each other. BoA has a branch in the same area as do a regional and a credit union.

The only one with either an empty parking lot, because it's closed, or a drive thru line like free money is being offered is Wells. The others seem to be better staffed, more efficient and less chaotic. I opened a Chase account recently in preparation for departing Wells in 2022. I couldn't, however, close my Wells account because the branch near me has limited hours and I didn't want to drive another 12 miles to do it Saturday.

This company is not well run, the future is not bright for Wells.

When I had to wire money online to another account, I was asked to go to the bank to present my ID's as they were not able to fully verify my identity over the phone and online. For the sum that I had to wire out, I was forced to because the money was due that day to the vendor.

So yes - there will be times when you will need to show your face at the branch. Once there, the line was out the door. There were 3 tellers (but only 2 available as 1 was always on break or doing something else) and 1 bank supervisor. There were a couple of other loan officers (my guess is that is what they do) sitting at their stations but they ignore the line and pretend there is nobody else in the branch except them.

Most of the people in line did not speak English and I'm guessing they do not have bank accounts and probably just want to cash the check drawn on the bank. Other than that, they needed a translator to help them make a bank transaction but I cannot tell the reason why they are there because I do not speak the language.

Also at a branch and currently the situation is untenable unless something drastically changes. We are either being sent to other branches to cover short fall there or a poor personal banker is hopping between teller line and platform, trying to balance while teller line is like 1 full time and one part time and the service manager most often has to be the branch manager too. I don’t know how we can go on like this.

@ith+1enhJuW5 some branches will close. That will solve the immediate problem of an understaffed branch. Of course, the other branch to take the overflow will experience similar issues. Don't worry, the Chuckster has it all figured out. Be good now boys and girls.

All banks want customers to bank online. Brick and Mortar branches are going to be a thing of the past. It's the same with retail and online shopping.

Branch future is dead. I would look at competitor or re-tool and change careers.

So sorry. Can't see it improving for you either. Don't risk your health, stress takes a toll.

If I currently worked in a branch, got a min pay increase, and an extra $200 or whatever on my paychecks… I’d make do. Or just find another job. All you can do is what you can do.

That's so the top executives can rake in millions on the backs of people like you. Seriously, quit. They want you to. Super easy to find another job in this economy.

Aren't branch folks getting an extra $200 a paycheck or something?

Its hard to find employees when Brandon incents individuals not to work.

Yeah, that’s normal. Was a banker for 5 years and quit last year because branch jobs are glorified fast food positions with no career growth. Unless you’re a premier working towards advancing into wealth management, it’s just order taking and getting yelled at by boomers. BM’s are constantly short staffed and DM’s won’t open rec’s for whatever reason. Not to mention the hilarious bs of taking your branch employees and asking them constantly to cover for other branches when there’s a shortage leaving the original branch short. Remember, this company LITERALLY cannot grow per the fed. If you think things will change, guess again.

Sorry that this is going on but I think it’s a common theme with all the layoffs. I’m not in a branch but I’m commercial banking. We are very lean also I could work 24/7 and still never catch up. It’s beyond exhausting and I have to work weekends too or I get anxiety.

Sorry this is happening. Have you looked at something else to get you out this position?
