How soon after we go back to the brick and mortar will your department have a "team building" event. My group will probably have one before the end of the 2nd week back. Maybe even a couple of them. Do we really need them?

We're already talking about resuming travel for this sort of thing. Personally, I'd rather not.
The calendar:
Monday: Team Building Event #1-- "Better Together" (aka "Mission Accomplished")
Friday: Team Building Event #2 - postponed due to outbreak.
Team building events are like DEI. All show.
That’s the one thing I think would be worth it! Rather than forcing us into an office for no reason WF would be better off if they told us to meet as a team in one local office once every week or two! With maybe virtually dialing in the other office teams. That would make more sense than blindly sending people back to these neighborhoods without people we even work with.
Those were gone years ago with budget cuts so probably not. And I most certainly am not spending any of my own funds to be around coworkers any longer than I have to.
This is a pandemic. And I also don’t socialize at work regardless.
Only on employee dollars, WF will refuse to pay for that.
In my area Team Building events are so they can showcase or parade out the New New "Leadership team" they hired from some external bank. Most these guys have just showed up out of the blue, they have no deep knowledge, no history here, fought no battles, and for sure not won any battles, and they want to be leaders without earning it. Even look at Charlie, I don't see much in the way of a list of successes and he's been here over two years.
It’s all how you define team. If you limit your definition to your lowest level team then it doesn’t make sense. However we are all part of the same team, doing our best work to make the firm profitable. Just think of all the great ideas that can be sprung by sitting next to people in different business lines.
Is everyone getting infected considered a team building event?
Our team was built remotely like 8 years ago... RTO won't build anything except aggravation and anxiety. F Chuck!
As my team is scattered among many different locations, it won’t be possible to have a team building event. I have only 2 team mates in the same city and no management. So that’s just 3 of us. What’s the point? Anyway, not sure if I want a team building event, because it is always a potluck. I have food allergies, so I don’t attend any potlucks.
Team building events only work for co-located teams and many Agile teams are not co-located.
With these new unassigned seating, I won’t even be able to sit with my 2 team mates so coming back will be strange and lonely. I’d rather stay home where I can eat with my spouse and not be alone.
The group that I am in never had one pre- COVID, so I am not afraid of it 😀
