Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Bonus Question

I heard that EM doesn’t pay employees bonus at all levels?

I am negotiating right now and would feel better if I knew the answer to this question.

They don’t guarantee that u would be here long enough to get a pension.

I think that’s the point. They used to all but guarantee a job for life. They don’t anymore, so no reason to stay.

I still don’t understand how people choose EXM with no bonus and not 9/80. They don’t guarantee that u would be here long enough to get a pension. If you think salaries are higher. Just talk to colleagues in other companies. They advance faster and get bigger salaries + bonus. They just brainwashed u into believing u are the best and work for the best.

This is how it was, not how it is. I have recently the same answer only to find out from a new experienced hire that the starting salary was adjusted higher than the original offer.
This is NOT the EM that we knew anymore. The gpa requirement has been dropped and salaries are negotiated!

It’s apparent some of the commenters either don’t work for EM or are very new to the Company. @rfm+1epIUVgC is correct. Exxon does not negotiate salary. They make you an offer, and you take it or leave it. This has been the case for as long as anyone I know at the company has been there.

A Cl 31 exec once shared he could make $500K in a good year. That's all I could get from them.

Is anyone willing to share an estimate of the RSUs and EBUs achievable at CL30? I know the RSUs for CL29 below are nothing worth celebrating, but wondering if it's worth sticking it out to one day get to exec status.

EBU start at CL30. RSU at CL 26. If you are middle ranked, they will not negotiate base salary with you unless you are far below your salary reference. This is especially true if they have 3 past rankings on your performance. Bottom 40% is generally considered non-regrettable attrition, so if you are bottom half, you are expendable. Once you signal you are planning to quit, you will be sacrificed in next year's ranking. There is no good reason to tolerate an unloyal person ...give the ranking and better and important assignments to someone who is loyal.

There is no negotiation. EM will tell you where you fit and what your pay is. All other benefits preprogrammed. Maybe if you are true high level executive with specific outside experience (like our new CFO) you can negotiate a contract. For the masses, the possibility of RSUs is a nice to have. If you are experienced hire forget the concept of RSU and bonus and focus on whether or not you'll like working at EM

RSUs begin at CL 26, but only if you are assessed outstanding. CL 26 RSUs are 160 shares that vest over 3 and 7 years, 50% at each.

Executive level gets salary, RSUs, EBUs (based on hitting an EPS target), and a cash bonus. Less than 1% make exec.

What are the levels and corresponding salaries? Are there different scales? Many companies have different scales for different disciplines, e.g. engineers, geoscientist, communication, legal, etc

Negotiate a higher starting salary, more vacation time and higher CL. (Refer to this website on CL levels.). There are no bonuses. There is stock compensation with future vesting, but only once you get to maybe CL 27 and have great performance. Even then, total values are small.

Real benefit is pension, but you have to plan for the long term then.

There are cash bonuses linked to earnings performance starting at CL30.

Supervisor will squeeze everything out you. Know how to draw boundaries unless you like working 60 hours week. Don’t complain about work load or stay late because they will say you are a poor performer because you are slow to learn or not efficient.

No bonuses. ExxonMobil offered a nice salary compared to other O&G companies. One of a few companies that still offer a pension. You will only get that when you reach 15 years of service and 55 years of age. Not sure about salary increases as I suspect it’s dependent on how well your boss can advocate during ranking. The whole raise and performance assessment exercise is shrouded in mystery.

Will you be happy with the salary they are offering you for the next five years? You will get one raise your first year, and then you will get little to nothing after that until your five or six year mark. If you haven’t been fired by then, you’ll start receiving about 3% raises.

Don’t join the initial number is not worth the amount of work and minimal raises you can expect in the next 5 years.

Yep, no bonuses, except if you have exec level, in which case you get some stock awards.

Bonus and stock starts at CL27. Bachelor's degree is CL23.

There is no bonus at all at any level. You get a good pension and then at certain levels you get rsus. It’s almost impossible to negotiate salary as it’s a calculation based on experience and position
