Cisco Could Turn itself around by...

We've had lots of posts on what the problems are with Cisco...

What are the solutions? How do we solve the mess that is what Cisco has become?

The only way to fix Cisco would be to break it down to it's acquisition parts. At one time or another those parts were actually thriving companies.

Once r&s platforms are ready to go fully whitebox/virtualized, split hw and sw. Make sw/cx a separate company.

I’m surprised they don’t break up the company because they only care about share price, and the street would ducking love it if they did a break up.

Break Meraki, Sercuity, Collab(WebEx) into separate companies. Make the PSS/TSA the AM/SEs for these new companies.

The portfolio has become too big for current AM/SEs to support. We are losing deal because they are competing against experts from PAN, Zoom, Zscaler, Fortinet, Aruba, etc. For example, It isn’t a fair fight when a Cisco SE with little or no Security experience/knowledge has to go head to head with a PAN SE who spent his career in Security. By the time the Security team is brought in, the deal is lost.

Not to mention Cisco isn’t innovating or developing solutions at the same rate as these point product companies.

@1hxp+1eqSKBqM I agree except Cisco bought all the R&S innovation through acquisitions.

You guys speak about turn around while the business is booming, at least according to the Mr Market. I'm sure that, buying at $62, someone will cry big time in a few months. This POS can't be growling w/o any reason.

You know that whole theory about A managers hiring A- players? We are somewhere on the C managers hiring D- players. Why are people so scared of hiring people smarter than them? Oh yes, I remember

Go back to what made Cisco great - route/switch. Start re-innovating there and drop/divest the other BUs that create noise and diversion.

It's honestly too late for Cisco to become a growth company without breaking it apart. Cisco is too far behind in all of the major growth areas to effectively compete, and its culture of mediocrity will continue to be an anchor around its neck.

If you want to hang around for the next decade, you can collect a paycheck. If you want to grow yourself, it's time to leave.

  1. Start hiring actual experts in each role
  2. Not shackling them with cr---y managers
  3. Having discussions and promotions being won by what is actually good for company and customers
  4. Removing about 2 layers of management in each group - nothing will change, amazing!
  5. Having a strategy is not based on grandiose delusions
