Well, today is my last day at Chevron and as I look back over the last 12 years, what I have I learned:
- If you are going to stab someone in the back, make sure you can blame it on someone else.
- Tell your manager that they are great no matter what. If they ask for honest feedback, just tell them they are the best manager you have ever had.
- It is always good to tell your manager that they are a roll model.
- Divert blame. Never allow someone to put the blame on you even if it is your fault.
- No one is your friend. Everyone is your competition.
- Say Chevron is the best place to work to everyone you see. If someone calls you out, simply say, but it is true. You may burn in he-l but you will be closer to that promotion.
- Be a mentor to as many people as possible but in no means allow them to get a foot in front of you.
- If you see some hipot coming up fast on your heels, you better find a way to cool their jets even it if takes planting a story that destroys their career.
My friends, that is the Chevron Way.
Kate is out.
