Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

My goal is to be out of XOM sometime in 2022

If I'm still here by 2023, I'm going to consider it a personal failure. I've been finding plenty of excuses why I can't leave this week or this month but even I know that enough is enough. If I get laid off in the meantime, even better. For the first time in my life, I'd welcome news of more cuts. My only true worry is being PIPed, since we all know it has nothing to do with performance and everything to do with getting rid of older and better paid employees, but I'll cross that bridge if I get to it.

@2iht+1eurbEwF me too. Cant trust Xom anymore. First week 2022 will be legend when a wave of people resign at the same time

OP, XOM had already released their targeted layoff/PIP off numbers earlier this summer I believe, something like 5-8% for the next 3-5 years and so far we are only in year two of this program.
I plan on resigning early 2022 and thought about telling my supervisor before the end of this year so there would be more time to get a replacement. A good friend talked me out of that idea. "You can probably trust your supervisor, but once you resign, you are dealing with HR and they can tell you to hit the road." Makes sense to me with all the the shady things this company has been doing.

Have a meeting with yourself, every day, when you boot up your system.
Jot down some notes on your progress at every meeting.
That will make it easier. And quicker.

Just a suggestion: set a more precise date by which you want to be out of there and not the entire year of 2022. Everybody is different, but having such a broad timeline leaves lots of wiggle room for excuses and procrastination. Good luck! I’m leaving in January and couldn’t be more excited.

Make it your 2022 project! And make sure you finish and execute it and not just leave it in "strategy" phase :p
And most important, have the courage to resign once you find the new opportunity...some people chicken out last minute although they have offered contract as they are afraid to take the risks :)

Tell us more, what’s your time with Xom and age group.
I’m at 30 years, just entering NRE and plan to leave as soon as I hit RE.
