Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Excited for January 3rd?

Who is excited to get back in the office? According to MW all the issues at Chevron are due to the pandemic and management seems to think getting back in the office will cure all the issues related to bad morale. We'll see what happens i guess.

If you want to head back to the office Chevron noted that the office is open for anyone who wants to head up there. So head up there if you are desperate. No one is stopping you. If you have to have other people be forced in to make you happy then that's a whole other layer of selfishness.

@2dzh So you're not a Chevron employee but you waste your time trolling this board? Sounds like you need some new hobbies. In all seriousness, you have no clue what you're talking about though. With no commute and work from home, I put in many more hours to get work done than I otherwise would going into office. If that's the tradeoff, then so be it. We've done this for two years, there is no case to be made for working in an office. Sorry, but that's reality. The office is still open and YOU are free to report ... oh that's right, you're not a Chevron employee so you don't even have a vested interest. Next.

@2shq, No YOU have fun stealing company time, at the office, home, wherever, spending all day fake up and down voting thinking other people are pathetic mindless sheep like yourself, whatever. I'm not a CVX employee. Still winning.

Return to work might be postponed but for the true win the off campus site is open and ready for business. Put in the OT over there and there is no remote work there. On in person.

The attitude of the company gets to make all the rules and control everything is a big reason the US corporate work world is so bad today. Employees need to gain more control. The company needs Employees unless MW can do it all himself. Hes desperate to get us in to heal the company he broke with his desperation for layoffs. Sorry not going to happen!

I'm happy that we'll finally be getting at least a little more back to normal, and I'm not afraid to show up for work, that's what they're paying us for. They pay, they get to make the rules, in case anyone has forgotten. If you want to make them, start your own company. I am not excited about the commute, etc. but that's life. Life's not all fun and games and playing around at home and being your own boss.
Looking forward to next week, seeing my work podnas, and at least a partial return to normal.

Is that what you clowns are still arguing about, having to actually go in and work for a living instead of what most of you have been doing at home? lol. If you on this thread had actually been working and doing your best, you'd have nothing to worry about. It's obvious that a lot of children are upset to have to put down the X-boxes.

Due to the Omicron surge (which may not peak until late January), 1/3 RTO borders on irresponsibility for Chevron management.

I thought part of the Digital Transformation was to replace humans with computers, or at least just have the humans click the "approve" button on the decision the computer made. Sound facetious, but I remember some of our "digital gurus" (high pots who were petrotechs the day before) saying this while promoting the DT. Shouldn't we be able to accomplish this 3 hr/day in WRH?

While I think RTW is inevitable and I generally support under the hybrid model, it does seem ludicrous to do so during a massive Houston Covid spike with very limited testing availability and with a mask policy that has not kept up with the evolving virus transmissibility. We have seen the Omicron peak in SA burn itself out relatively quickly, so a brief delay in RTW of a month or two would get us through this peak without having any significant impact on the desire to get us back into the office. This is the conclusion that other large companies like Ford have come to.

It only proves management is out of touch with reality and that safety isn't a priority.

I wonder how many of you who have gotten a polio vaccine in your life have ever contracted polio. Here we are now and people who have 3-4 have are still getting sick with COVID. How big pharma is getting away with this unchallenged is amazing.

Most schools and universities will be in person, so that's that. The virus will come and go in waves but WFH has to end once and for all.

I drive an hour to my rig and then work 26 hours a day after that. Everyone needs to be working extremely hard to make sure MW meets his goals. How is he going to meet his goal of a second yacht and a third home if we aren't all working many hours and are you office workers don't get back in the office? He might just have to have another big layoff so he can get a fourth home. So get to work so MW can be truly happy!

There has been a breakdown of the testing infrastructure, especially around Houston. Between long lines and non-existent appointments/at-home tests, people are choosing to not get tested.

I can only imagine how severely underreported the number of cases are. It’s borderline irresponsible for MW to not delay RTW.

And as it was called back in the day
@1pmo You are a true “haircut”

The job is what the job is and the pay is what the pay is. Now either keep this job or find a new job. Can’t stand complainers who only complain and will not even attempt to change their situation. If your unhappy leave and go be happy.

Get in that d@mn van, carpool, bus or whatever way you get to work and how many hours it takes you to get there! The Comp.. needs you there face to face. No more throwing your phone in your back pocket during a Teams meeting while remodeling your house or going for a walk or “working that second job” hopefully you have natural immunity because it’s obviously proven the jab ain’t going to keep you from being sick or passing it in to your coworkers. You enjoyed the three hour workdays. Now it’s time to saddle up and get into that Rodeo! You should have taken that job you found on All those job apps you downloaded. You just didn’t jump because who in the H E double toothpicks is going to pay you 6 figures, bennies, 401k and pension for just working 12 hours a week! L@@$er$!

Returning to workplace right after the holidays when many are traveling and getting exposed to omicron and Delta is not wise. Reevaluating in early February for Early March return would make more sense as we are also in flu season. I know of someone who just gave notice for this inflexibility. We will lose more if we don’t use common sense.

Yeah in states like Texas the businesses hold all the cards in regards to everything. In mentality things have not changed in centuries in those states when it comes to businesses and business owners doing whatever they want to employees. Guaranteed the Texas Governor would support forcing everyone in even if they te-t positive. Work comes before anything else in Texas.

OSHA is enforcing the CDC guidelines and conducting inspections in response to deaths in hospitals but not in other cases, according to an OSHA memo released April 13 and Debbie Berkowitz, Worker Safety and Health program director for the National Employment Law Project, a worker advocacy group.

About 4,000 coronavirus-related complaints have been filed against employers that fail to provide safe workplaces but the agency has not issued any citations or fines, Berkowitz says. Instead, she says, OSHA is pointing businesses to the voluntary guidelines.

According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), “your employer may require you to come to work during the COVID-19 pandemic.” It goes on to specify that if there are emergency orders in effect in your state (say, only essential businesses can remain open), then you may not have to go into the office.

Also, it’s important to note that if your employer is requiring you to return to in-person work, you are entitled to “a safe and healthful workplace” per OSHA. During the pandemic, that could include:

  • Requiring every employee to wear masks
  • Creating workstations that are six feet apart
  • Upgrading the ventilation system

When Can You Refuse to Come Into Work?
While you can be required to report to work, there are a few exceptions. However, before you tell your employer that you aren’t returning to the office, consult a qualified attorney first.

@OP I hope for their (Chevron’s) sake they’ve crossed all of the t’s and dotted all of the i’s with their legal team. The first fully vaccinated employee to contract a breakthrough Covid-19 case because of being forced back into the office will trigger what is likely to be a high-profile and embarrassing lawsuit.

The executives (of course) will always have the option of working remotely, as they have since the mid-1990s. This is at least as much about class as it is anything else.

Why can’t Chevron delay indefinitely like other big companies such as Apple and Expedia? They need to just cut everyone out of their misery and try to retain talent by being going fully remote. Imagine what a great morale booster for their team if they would just do the obvious necessity for 2022… it’s been clearly proven business can move forward fully remote.

There will be a two week to one month delay. Fortunately, Houston was an “early adopter” of Omicron, so the wave will have likely peaked by next week. But come Jan 17 or Jan 31, looking forward to seeing everyone back Tues-Thurs!

I can tell you I'm not ready. We are in a surge for one and we will be bringing back unproductive and tough commutes for places like Houston. If they think this is going to pump up morale they are extremely mistaken. Look for a lot of people rolling out.
