Most disappointing car reveal of the year: Ford Maverick

From Motorius:
Every year, automakers try to whip up all kinds of buzz about the reveal of a new model. Sometimes the hype is justified, however other times the buildup leads to a huge letdown. Out of all the anticipated reveals this year, we found the all-new Ford Maverick to be the most disappointing. With the return of a storied nameplate and the prospect of Ford launching an alternative to the Ranger, we were intrigued before the launch, although cautiously so. It turns out that caution was wise.

See a huge classic Ford collection here.

Upon its reveal, it was immediate clear the new Maverick was a stinker. The marketing focused on young urbanites, the exact kind of people who probably look with disdain at anyone who owns a pickup truck. Ford probably felt that group would gravitate to the unibody Maverick, but they haven’t rallied around the Honda Ridgeline and probably won’t be all over the Hyundai Santa Cruz, so that’s pretty much a pipe dream.

Compared to the Ridgeline and Santa Cruz, the Maverick has the worst payload rating at 1,564 lbs. that’s about 200 lbs. more than the 2021 Toyota Sienna minivan, which is pathetic. When it comes to towing, the Maverick can only manage 2,000 lbs. If you add the Towing Package, the turbo-four model can pull a maximum 4,000 lbs. which is still pathetic. Once again, the Ridgeline and Santa Cruz surpass that.

Figures.... ford is not promoting it. Its the best value suv out there and its a hybrid. It should be flying out of the dealers at $20 grand

Are you dense? I’m not in the market for any pickup/utility vehicle. Wanting one is not directly correlated to how good the product is for its purpose. I have stick shift car and love it, a Maverick just isn’t a substitute. If I was doing DIY house project/had a dog, a Maverick/Bronco sport would be a good add. A Navigator, F150, BMW X7, and Miata are all good cars but I wouldn’t buy any of those simply because they don’t match my needs at the moment

Translation of last post: "The Maverick is great! Everyone should want one. Oh, but I don't."

LOL

Most of the reviews are positive and you clearly cherry picked the one review that supports your disdain for the company. The maverick is dirt cheap and great value for the money. Ford recognized who the customer is and tailored it nearly perfectly to that group. Would I buy one? No but it’s not something I’m in the market for. Get a life

Motorious ? That is not a reputable news source. Equivalent of shock TV Jerry Springer. If you’re quoting it it kind of shows you don’t know much about the auto industry. Maverick will be fine, there’s something called a chip shortage and it’s built in the same plant as bronco sport which that’s probably got their thumb on the scale to make more of those, if you have to ration chips .

I'm no fomoco apologist, but Torchinsky at Jalopnik gave the Mav a great review. Swiss army kn--e of trucks was it? Nice.

The last paragraph says it all:
Consumers don’t seem to be responding well to the Maverick. Through the end of November, sales totaled just 7,228 for the year. Granted, the truck launched halfway through the year, but with 2,582 sales coming in November, it’s clear there isn’t overwhelming enthusiasm about the pickup. We doubt there will be, unless Ford redesigns it from the ground up.
