Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

MOH is a joke

I’m a close contact of a symptomatic covid case - exposure occurred at work. The automated MOH “close contact” email don’t reveal who exposed you, but the person voluntarily reached out to me and explained the situation. They’re double vaxxed + boosted with no underlying health conditions; nevertheless, they’ve been hit hard by symptoms.

Because I’m vaccinated, the MOH email is purely an FYI and a request to “self monitor.” I’m not required to do anything differently - no WFH, no mask, no test. Um… if the sick person who exposed me is also vaxxed + boosted, isn’t it reasonable to conclude that I could be in for a rough ride too? And that I could easily infect more people at work?

In addition, MOH is still defining “fully vaxxed” as two shots, even though there is abundant research demonstrating that a two-shot regimen is only 30% effective against Omicron (basically useless) and a booster can achieve 70-80%. Even still, the company is not collecting information about who’s been boosted and doesn’t factor boosters into its covid exposure protocols.

“Safety first” has become a joke. This company is choosing to deliberately ignore the latest wave. When everyone is back from the holidays in January, it’s going to spiral out of control among the employee population if nothing about these guidelines is changed. May the odds be ever in your favor, I guess.

If you want to WFH You should work somewhere else. Lithe virus isn’t going away. You will have to learn to live with it

If you have a reason to stay home you can present your case to stay home to avoid potential exposure. Stop whining and do something about it.

OP:
At EXxonMobil, talking about “no body gets hurt” and “handrail holding” is more important than lives of people who do not show up on Performance Assessment matrices.

I've been bringing my own PPE to EM sites for years now.
The minimum is just not sufficient for me.

LOL @ the person who said MOH procedures match CDC recommendations. Far from it. For example, if that were true, we’d all be masked indoors regardless of vaccination status because basically the entire country has “substantial or high transmission” right now.

@OP, I’m with you. My 4yo is undergoing chemo for her leukemia, and if I bring home covid it could easily ki-l her. I’m sick and tired of the “iT’s JuSt a CoLd” crowd at work, and I shouldn’t have to reveal my family’s private he-l to every professional acquaintance in order to get them to wear a mask for 30 minutes while they’re in a meeting with me. We need to remove “care” from the new culture framework. It’s an empty word. Our actions (or really our lack thereof) speak louder.

I think the symptomatic person has a choice of whether or not MOH releases details. I was a close contact and MOH provided me with extra details when I asked.

COVID is here to stay, albeit as a milder form & part of the pantheon of diseases that are a part of life.
We all need to stop cowering in fear and getting back to the real world….that includes gasp going to the workplace to do the work this company (or any other company) PAYS you to do. Nothing new under the sun; life can be challenging. Grow Up.

Even if the Omicron strain ends by optimizing Covid-19 (for the virus, it’s more efficient to spread more but cause less damage to hosts), even if Covid-19 will end up by being like the flu, there still will be some breakthrough cases with severe symptoms, but rather rare (research will show). Remember that the flu also ki--s a lot of people each year.
Get your vaccine, get your booster, wear a mask indoors, but understand that the mass hysteria has to end at some point. We are not going to live like that forever. In fact, we should accept that none of us will live FOREVER, something younger Americans seem to forget lately.

Stop being a pu--y and get back to work. If you’re really scared you can go work somewhere else where they are more touchy feely.

If EM required employees to provide vaccination status there would be outrage here. What way do you want it? No one will be happy no matter what the company does.

MOH policy is same as CDC. My kids’ school follows same guidelines. This is standard.

@pnq+1exczgVM must be unable to read, because OP clearly stated that a coworker with no underlying health conditions has been “hit hard by symptoms.”

@pnq+1exczgVM also must not know and love anyone who is pregnant, diabetic, a transplant recipient, a cancer survivor, HIV positive, etc … since all have been shown to be risk factors for severe disease. Many of our coworkers and their family members are impacted by these conditions. Guess they don’t matter.

They should be ignoring the current wave because it doesn’t do sh!t to healthy people. Every single person in my household (2 vaxed, 2 children not vaxed but previously infected) has had it, the worst symptom was a stuffy nose. Symptom free in 3 days.
