What happened to the rule of 72. It passes up recessions, you know.

True story:

One of our so-called “brilliant minds” here got out of the market during the crash in 2007/2008 around DJIA 12,0000 (about 25 years of his savings). He never could pick a spot where he felt comfortable getting back in as the market rebounded. “DJIA 16,000- Now it’s too high! It will come back down.” He did eventually start investing new money from his paycheck at some point, but never re-invested the big chunk and missed out on all that market rise and compounding.

I moved into cash a number of months ago but I’m 66 years old. I sold when WFC was above $60.

My advice to people who have a 20-30 year time horizon is a dollar cost averaging strategy.

@1zve - Exactly! I was thinking about Event 201 too and how suddenly these “simulations” go live.

IF you move money into cash AND the market starts to tank - you have to buy on the way down. If you look at a graph of the market - no one sells exactly at the top and then buys back in exactly at the bottom.

re @1jwg+1exqi0kd is that a reference to the Cyber Polygon simulation earlier this year? Or another new simulation? Klaus Schwab and his Davos cronies (the same folks who hang out with our execs like BD and BR) have been hinting at a systemic cyber attack over the past year. And last time they simulated something for "preparation," it magically came to fruition a few months later (look up Event 201).

Time in the market beats timing the market

Nasdaq.com had a recent article about several countries simulating a cyber attack on the global financial system - that’s a scary thought, but it would crash the markets…

If you think it's a good idea - take a few $'s off the table. Don't do 100%... maybe 20? 30? I'd do no more than 50% - but that's just me...

Depends on your time horizon and risk tolerance. It's well known that when people try to time the market, they lose in the long run vs. staying in and riding it out.

It's incredibly difficult to time the market, but I also think that investing should be fun too. I say go ahead and take a shot, but just don't be surprised if things don't play out like you had hoped.

I love a good market crash. Great buying opportunity. I hope one does happen. Of course, with inflation on a rampage, even a flat market is a down market.

The crash that some have predictor years yet has not happened? I still don't think it will happen. I'm not moving but you do you
