Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

Will CBDCs usher in the end of Wells Fargo and other banks?

Biden's failed Comptroller of the Currency nominee, Saule Omarova, is a strong proponent of Central Bank Digital Currencies. Other institutions - BIS, World Bank, IMF, and certain Federal Reserve branches - are doing pilots or other activity towards executing a CBDC strategy. It's also likely that the push for a new type of passport and digital ID with some "other current event" is tied into the push for CBDCs.

What will this mean for WF? Today, commercial banks play an important role in money supply through fractional reserve lending. The vast majority of all USD is created through debt issuance by WF and other banks.

In a world where everyone has a FedCoin account, there's no need for banks such as WF. In a world where central banks can create liquidity without mechanisms such as quantitative easing, but by simply altering balances of end consumers in real time, there's no need for banks such as WF. In a world with negative interest rates, the entire financial system we know and understand today is turned on its head.

Will any of this even exist in 5 to 10 years? Yes we all know Chuckles is working to harken our demise sooner, but it sure looks like the industry is doomed as a whole.

The OP is one of the better bitcoin pump and dump posters.

He/she/they are why some people won't "invest" in bitcoin, even a small amount as a hedge.

There's just too much nonsense like this posted online for to take it seriously.

Completely agree with you.

Wells Fargo absolutely should have been closed in 2016 over the fake accounts scandal, and yes, nobody at the OCC HAD the guts or courage to do what is right. I still think that they want to do that gracefully, through Charlie, by selling off lines of business to Fintechs. Every single thing that we do to become smaller means that we pose less risk to the banking system.

We are too large and far too toxic to fail… we simply must decrease our size and lines of business. There is no way that we are ever going to get out from under the asset cap. Our history and culture is well known over decades of scandal.

Another threat to banks will come and go like they all have done for the last 50 years. Add to this post all of the week minded name calling and you have a bunch of trash.

“ I think you’re paranoid that everyone else is paranoid”

Yeah ok, always best to base your financial advice on OP’s conspiracy theories ie “It's also likely that the push for a new type of passport and digital ID with some "other current event" is tied into the push for CBDCs.”

Lol what is wrong with the people who post here

If there were any bank on earth that I hope gets put out of business, it's Wells Fargo. This place should of been closed in 2016 over the fake accounts scandal, but nobody at the OCC has the guts or courage to do what is right.

Gold bugs (ie conservatives) are the only ones defending Crypto. Everyone else knows what's up with it.

There are still banks in China where they have a central bank cryptocurrency. However, these are large state-owned banks for specific types of commerce. You need a SIM card with a local phone number to open an account, everything is digital online banking except in rural areas. Some websites only accept the online Chinese payment system.

While international payments (Visa, Mastercard, ...) are accepted at these banks to load Union Pay (within the Chinese banking network) they aren't likely accepted by vendors. Digital currency locks people out of the system if they aren't using the central bank's digital currency, including transportation and medical care.

If the government cannot see your transaction then it is considered illegal. But they make it very easy to stay within the system. However, moving money in or out of the country is difficult, expensive, and even illegal if done outside that system.

Chinese citizens can own gold (precious metals) but cannot export or conduct commerce with them outside the People's Bank of China. The IMF reports there are 40 countries that issue digital currency. These include Sweden, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. Banks are still necessary for extending credit, processing loans, and administrative activities -- just fewer of them are necessary.

The big difference between CBDC and paper dollars is that they can be turned off remotely much like a credit card. The FDIC already has the same level of transparency as they would with bank accounts as they get daily transaction reports on citizens' bank accounts already.

What may not be necessary is bank branches, tellers, and folks that handle physical currency.
