Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Everything is easier if you are among the favorite ones

I’m definitely not one of the manager’s favorites. Admittedly, I didn’t even bother to become one of those people. I will probably have to deal with favoritism again in the new company as well, but for now it is important for me to leave this one. What would you say, in what sense is everything easier here for those who are among the manager's favorites?

If you do not like Cisco, then resign

@1xrr+1eynSaAU You think the company has 20 more years? That’s a lot of network refresh cycles.

Less inspection for those who are 'favored'. If you speak out or have an opinion that isn't part of the 'collective', you will have an uphill battle.

Cisco is the Titanic where it is just not possible to turn the ship. Old school mentality will prevail for the next 20 years. Leave while you can - 'iceberg, iceberg!'

That's (work) life.

People get labeled as "chosen ones" who are put on a path towards the top.

I'm trying to figure out the logic/reason behind it and become one of those people myself. Sure, some of it has to do with merit but there's another thing you have to possess. I still haven't put my finger on it.

Cisco managers/leaders don't seem to value hard work, good quality outcomes, happy customers, or happy employees.

They value whether or not you can get them promoted.

So they promote those who say little, do little, but make them look good. And with numbers like ours - looking good usually comes with vast lies.

People who make a point to work pleasantly with everyone tend to get better results overall. Welcome to real life.

Cisco is a relationship based company... not performance based

That's just human nature. You're going to come across this anywhere you go. Perception is reality.
