Dec 30 (Reuters) - Chevron (CVX.N) on Thursday said it was postponing a scheduled January full return to office for its two largest U.S. work sites as the Omicron variant spreads across the United States.

We should follow what DJT would do. He would say everyone get back in the office and if need be live there to be patriotic and work non stop. Then he would never go into the office and instead golf and head to his resort home. So we should stay home based on his actions.
Morale is going to go down ever further when we go back. There are a few sickos that will get their jollies by being back but most will be hating life once the horrible commutes resume.
The protected need to be protected from the unprotected, by forcing the unprotected to use the protection that didn't protect the protected.
There is no extra productivity in the office. Having a little water cooler chat doesn't really help anything as you can do that on teams. Anyone can goof off if they want to in the office as well. You can do a whiteboard virtually on through teams as well. You shouldn't have to force people who work well from home and deliver all thats asks of them there up to work to waste time that could be spent with family up to the office because you like it. The main reasons management wants us back is they think it will fix morale (it wont) and that management can walk around and check on everyone. Chevron will lay you off as soon as they can to raise the dividend so I wouldn't care too much honestly as they don't care about you.

The argument for higher productivity (difficult to quantify) and greater collaboration happening at the office is nonsense. Pre-Covid, people were showing up late, leaving early, taking 90-minute lunches, and scrolling on their personal phones for four of the six hours they were actually there. Nobody was “collaborating” in any meaningful sense of the word.
Nothing is lost or gained from being in the office except for the perceived status of middle-management and middle-managers. Again, not my problem.

Well, we know the office is open, and I have been going 3 days a week. I was hoping for everyone to go back to the office; not to dominate people or get into somebody else's business, but because I feel the team is more productive if we are there. Being able to have the casual talk with a whiteboard, in front of us, build relationships in a more informal manner, etc. I know the office is open, but it does not me any good to be there by myself. That is the reason those comments get downvoted. The hopes to getting back to the “older” or “normal” interactions of some of us. I understand the concerns of some, but that does not take away the personal preference of some like me of being back with the rest of you guys.
Why is it that every comment favorably discussing (or even pointing out) that Chevron will continue WFH receives several downvotes? It’s been pointed out here and elsewhere that the office is open for those who wish to go there. If you don’t like WFH, then go to the office.
From what I’ve seen, the only people who really want to go back to the office are controlling middle-managers who have lost what few perks come with the job due to working remotely. Your problem, not mine.
If you want to head back to the office Chevron noted that the office is open for anyone who wants to head up there. So head up there if you are desperate. No one is stopping you. If you have to have other people be forced in to make you happy then that's a whole other layer of selfishness. MW thinks that RTW will fix the company he broke.
Once again MW and SR look to see how Microsoft and Schlumberger handle the situation, then just repeat their press releases.
