Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Management resignations

Good article. Most supervisors and managers I talk to are tired of being scapegoats for the inevitable consequences of decisions made by executives.

I won’t risk my job for my staff. Seriously, who would? I admit it, at least I am honest. I do what my boss tells me to do and I ensure those above me are pleased by my actions. So what? Is that not what I am paid to do? Don’t think I’m going to fall on the sword just for those below me on the totem pole, that’s d-mb. It’s the real world cupcake, deal with it.

They are still on the hook. I believe the Global Forum discussed that “leadership” is on the hook for communicating career development, etc.

Regarding the comment below - officially the layoff was supposed to based on skills, core values, and performance. I asked during how we were going to be ranked on core values. Multiple managers told me that it was really company fit and location flexibility. We had published a set of core values. The company literally corrupted the part of the process that was directly tied to core values. So fitting. There were people who followed the published core values but were let go because they stood up to a manager or because they didn’t want to move to Beaumont.

They really reenforced the Koolaid behavior when they showed the vocal managers the door during the layoffs last year. 70% company fit / 30% performance, remember?

A post that was removed from this board stated that 90% of supervisors will never upset the balance of power by doing the right thing, like ranking a hard-working employee above a highly sponsored useless HiPo, and about 50% of supervisors actually get to enjoy ruining people’s careers with their fake ranking, because it gives them some kind of power high, a (rather pathetic) God complex.
Apparently EM management got so upset this “secret” is out they got the site admin to delete it. Guys, cool down, it was just stating the obvious.

5 year upstream employee here. They put me on the HiPo track last year, gave me a couple of RSU's, and recently told me who my sponsor was.

I'm leaving as soon as I finish negotiating my offer.

They take the spine when they implant the chip. Joining the ranks or supervision with the aspiration to be a manager or an executive requires giving up on common sense and embrace the fiction, follow orders, and spread the Koolaid.
There is no courage of conviction or leadership among that pathetic group.
Complicity for sure.

At ExxonMobil this does not apply. A huge majority of supervisors and managers are toxic and fake. They do not disagree with executives and never raise any opposing views to higher up. I came across many who stopped contributing and started the toxic behavior to get on the management ladder.

Do not absolve or acute lower level of management and wanna be leads. They should all be fired first.
