There are multiple such poisonous albino snakes in my LOB. They appear to be secretive, snaking around doing nothing - yet being recognized as "leaders". What do they lead?! Lead a TOXIC working environment?!!
Suck ups usually get promoted even if they are not that good at what they are assigned to do. I was in a situation like that where I worked, my manager didn't know his a-s from his elbow. His claim to fame was his ever confusing spreadsheets. When he submitted something to supposedly improve a process it became more confusing that needed to be. Sometimes you don't need to fix a process that is not broken. So glad I no longer am in his line of sight or anywhere involved in the process he is in charge of. He most definitely kissed a-s to get the position he had. A snake in the grass if there ever was one.

There is this chick that isn’t the most hardworking nor on top of things and being efficient but she does laugh at our manager’s joke and participate in conversations i the group chat. Looks like that’s why she got promoted to an associate recently, but I guess creatures like her are what get the win in workplaces shrugs
