Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I would describe the WFC culture as……

Lately I have been absolutely astonished at the ‘not my job’ and ‘have no bandwidth’ for things that absolutely are their jobs and they don’t seem all that busy otherwise. Tons of backstabbing behavior lately in my LOB (Tech) too.

The culture was never perfect but has plummeted in the last 6 months or so. People used to make an attempt to help others and actually take care of their responsibilities. What the he-l is happening here?

Anyone else seeing the same?

@2vpo+1f1KmW3C typical WFC jack ho-e. The OP posed a QUESTION asking IF their anecdotal experience was isolated or not. Spoiler: in Tech it’s not.

After completely missing the point go on to talk about what YOU think is important. Jesus Christ I can’t wait to leave this pit full of disgusting, self-centered miserable as-----s.

What I find most hilarious about these types of posts is that OPs like these act like their anecdotal experience is some kind of emperical data point indicating some kind of"cultural" shift. This is too large of an org for you to measure by the fact that a few people told too to eff off this week.

Focus on the things that matter. It's a large company, lots of people can get away with slacking off. Don't be one of those people. One day or another those people will be exposed. Or not.

I'm more focused on not RTOing

Op sounds like you have been passing the ball to others to do your work for you.

Those days are over. Step up and do your own job

Stack ranking puts me in competition with my peers and others. Why would I pass on my skills to someone else. I'm not going to help you unless it is visible to my management at least two levels up. It's not just about layoffs it is now daily existence.

I also work in Tech and I’m seeing the same thing.

It all starts at the top. The new managers they’ve brought in fit the classic definition of anti-social personality disorder (i.e., they’re sociopaths), and maybe that’s by design. Empathetic people have trouble sleeping at night when their primary responsibility is labor cost reduction (see: Layoffs). So, if a “leader” isn’t expected to care about someone else, why should you? I’m not saying it’s right, I’m just saying that’s how it is.

I love how everyone talks about culture when everyone is working from home. Cmon people. It’s a job. Stop worrying about what the culture is and just do your job and then go home to your family.

In certain respects, I'd like to think I'm not the exception, but based on a number of posts, that's likely not true. I sincerely love my team, my boss consistently has my back and looks out for my well-being, my leadership team are truly stand-up and do-what-they-say-they-will people, and I'm compensated considerably well for my job. When I joined a number of years ago, I hoped that I would be with the company for quite a while and be able to advance my career over time. Which takes me to where the culture falls off for me: forced RTO for employees that were hired and designated as remote when we have proven that remote work can be highly effective; and a very short-sighted location strategy that scuttles any possible career opportunities for abundantly qualified, high-performing people because they don't live in one of the blessed cities. I am very thankful for, and will regret leaving behind, the good parts of my experience here. But at this point, the looming negative is outweighing the positive.

@zde+1f1KmW3C the problem is mgmt doesn't give a rat's a-s how overworked people are. In my area it's - the beatings will continue until morale improves.

My amount of work has increased. This is much to do with layoffs. So I can understand if others are in the same boat. Calm down, take a breath, and do the best you can do. Have a nice weekend everyone.

I worked at a place once, where the only way one got things for their cubes was by "vulture-izing" cubes of those who recently left. In fact it got so bad people would put their name with a piece of tape on the item they wanted, even before the person left or the chair was no longer warm! The best analogy I can think of is a piece of hamburger in a pirhana tank. Wow would people get excited!!

So this brings me to WF. Our culture....is approaching the same level of depravity. Cutthroat sabotage by peers to make themselves look good, and thereby avoid the next round of cuts. Or get a bigger raise. Or get a plum assignment. These days it feels like everyone for themselves, except for those who've risen now to PE level or above. Those folks don't mess with the plebes anymore, they are above all that.

For the rest of us....back to work swabbies!!!!

@ltt+1f1KmW3C tell me you have a ton of WFC tenure without telling me you have a ton of WFC tenure.

You don't really know how busy they are. And you have to follow whatever processes are in place first. If you're following process then tracking that work is easy and you can escalate too. If you are not following process then you should get used to hearing that they don't have bandwidth.

Great culture and getting better every day! Just need to drop more dead weight to complete the turn around! Of course lazy and worthless employees are going to be upset bc the free ride is over but some people just refuse to upgrade their skill sets and must be let go!
