Given that the Corp claims to have a glut of degree-educated MPTs, average Joe’s career is likely to look very lacklustre moving forward.

To those in that bucket who have moved on from EM, where are you now and do you have any words of wisdom for the rest of us?

Some of the best site engineers were laid off since they were not a good fit with company culture. These technical resources made significant contributions impacting bottom line results, but were let go because of their candid communication and courage of conviction.

The company don’t appreciate real engineer. They would rather let you go to engineering consultancy and then pay a wholesome fee for the same technical service.

I think it is too late for an average Joe to work his way up to somethine meaningful.

I did it but started in the 80s. Nothing meaningful has existed for about the last 10 years.

Any aspiring "real" engineer should give EM a pass or leave if already here. Going forward, EM just wants to be a managenent company and let contractors and suppliers do the technical work. No mire vision of competitive advantage through technology, just make commercial deals pump, pump oil and gas and pocket profits.

I left for an engineering consultancy. Same base pay as EM, plus possibility of bonus, and slightly better benefits. Most importantly, my new employer treats its people better.

There are better jobs out there. You just need to look and apply. It took me awhile to overcome the fear and uncertainty of leaving... I had sort of a "fear of missing out" in the event of EM getting better. But looking around for other jobs made me realize that the real "missing out" was if I stayed.

You should do what makes you happy..and money is not everything (as long as you earn enough to have a comfort life) ... you graduated top of your class only to be told in EM that you are in the "middle" based on someone evaluation who are not aware of your real work (as results of fake ranking system)..please go where your talent is being appreciated...if you are OK with being average and don't need challenging work, then EM is the place to be (until your position is moved to lower cost countries)

Worked in upstream procurement and transitioned to a Tech hardware company. Better pay (by far), better benefits, and better work-life balance. 100% best decision I made for my career was leaving EM.

Management consulting, pay & benefits are much better and work is more enjoyable but hours can occasionally be longer.
