Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

So home lending loan processors are remote?

Like 100% remote and are not returning to offices?

What other groups are doing this?

@3cjq+1f3DAP4v well said.

We were told in 2020 we are permanently remote. Yet we continue to get every mass company email about RTO, etc. so I keep that lingering feeling in my mind that it will change some day.

This is an outrage! You mean to tell everyone doesn’t have the same privileges? It’s time to unionize. This isn’t a cult anymore!

Home Mortgage made the decision to be perm remote in early 2020 because this is how the industry works. Most mortgage staff work remotely at mortgage companies. WF was losing too many employees back in 2019/2020 to other companies for higher pay and ability to work remotely. Not everyone in mortgage is a mo--n or uneducated. We work very hard and we are the bread and butter for WF bottom line. Our bonuses are monthly and based on production, not at manager discretion. If you don't want to RTO and are so well-educated, why don't you move into a remote job?

Processors have a stress filled job. It is a nod to them to stay.

@1xtp+1f3DAP4v I'd say, never say never. We were never compared to being a cult until we were.

This is false info. Mortgage is not going anywhere unless the bank is going too. Its one of the keystones of the bank itself.

Psst - a lot of those jobs including processing and underwriting are on a short list for automation.

Our group of 200 or so people in CB has always been fully remote and continues to be fully remote and we will not be RTO’ing. Just depends on what you do and what your higher ups find important I guess. There are always exceptions to enterprise wide policies. That being said, maybe it is like someone said below, just making it easier to ship our jobs overseas. But if I can be replaced by someone that makes 75% less than I do, then I really need to step my game up or find a different career.

It's easier to justify sending the jobs to India. Have you seen linkedin lately? Hiring a lot of Indians to perform loan processing.

“ It’s not just home loan processors,
It’s almost all of home lending. Underwriting, closing, funding, shared services, collateral, all of us. Most of the reason is because we’re spread out across the country and we don’t need to be in the office to do our jobs. We just came off two of the most productive years for home lending ever recorded and it was 100% remote.”

So we can all say the same thing too and not work in home lending.

These are loan documentation specialists that don’t even need to have experience. Someone there just got hired that I know of with run of the mill cs experience. This is a joke.
I don’t work with sh-t to do with customers and have to go? LOL, no.

"we're better together...unless other companies do otherwise, then nevermind."

This is getting ridiculous. We can force the people making the company money to RTO and lose the good ones, or we can just jettison a boatload of CPG folks that aren't necessary in the future property portfolio anyway. Seems like a simple decision.

All the Small Business Underwriters that report up through Troy Johnson are permanently remote.

Mortgage is not being sold. Just stop. It's the definition of a core business. If they sell it, they might as well shut the entire show down.

In any case, it's amazing how many policies these days simultaneously "apply to everyone" and yet don't apply to everyone. They saw "we're better together and must RTO, even if we were remote pre-COVID"...unless there's lots of competitors are remote, then they can also. Uh, why are they not better together now?

Same deal with th travel policy. Must be fully vaccinated to travel, unless you're in the right group, then you can travel all the time without being vaccinated and it's no big deal.

None of the "company wide" policies are anywhere close to company wide. There are very large exceptions all over the place. I understand that different groups have different rules, but don't pi-s down my back and tell me it's raining.

Those employees being outliers will not last long as Chuckie is selling off home mortgage for a big deal and massive reduction in domestic headcount. The OP is giving mortgage concessions right now to keep staff and not run off potential buyer.

Why else would they get 'special' consideration? It's not like those are jobs needing a high education level to perform.

Yeah, not sure what makes them more special than any other group. I initially heard they needed to be remote due to competition, but wouldn't that go for a lot of folks

I don't think I am going to go back. Unless they threaten to fire me and I can't find another job.

I think anyone who knows they can do their job from home should do so as well.
