Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

USB doesn't want anybody above 50 working here

Look at the ages of people who are getting laid off and fired and tell me you don't notice that most of them have one thing in common: their age? Ever since I hit 50 I've been nervous, waiting for my turn. It's not normal to be this stressed out over job security every day but I can't help it. Age discrimination is nearly impossible to prove so USB gets away with it.

What you people are saying about ageism at US Bank is totally true. I was making too much money when the TOS division was in the process of shutting down processing centers several years back. That was a long process that didn't happen all at once. I applied for jobs in several different departments in an attempt to find a replacement job, but I received really snotty responses from The HR Department about my lack of qualifications. I had worked for 45 years at that time. I was proficient in Microsoft Office, good typist, great on a 10-key, 26 years in the back office at 5 major banks, one B.A. degree, one A.S. degree. They began by reducing our hours. I had no choice. I had to leave Denver. I had to be in charge of my own destiny. I resigned one month before I turned 66. They continued to string the Denver staff along for one year and 10 months longer before the final shutdown happened. I am now 69 and a half. I still work at a part time job. Ageism is very definitely alive and well at US Bank.

Oh, it's worse that that, the bank doesn't want any back office jobs in the United Syates, particularly in payments, where the goal is to move as much back office support to Poland, regardless of the impact on the valued customer, but with Poland sharing a common border with the Ukraine and the U.
S. Ukrainian embassy currently relocated to Poland, hopefully the major shareholders will step in and halt that balance sheet mauever to protect the integrity and continue unity of their investment.

New Trainees need to build their skills at the expense of USB. After two years, you need to start looking for a company that values you and your skills. USB hates their US based employees and never respects them. Accept the job but you need to know that you have to leave once the training is over. Build your resume and then move. After two years, management will change in their attitude towards you. Poor pay and lots of hours with zero respect is all you will see going forward.

The supply of workers is just too great.

Young and recently graduated H1-B, OPT, H4, H1 are nearly unlimited the last 20 years. If there are even 100 million new workers waiting for our jobs globally, we are kicked out.

I don't remember how it was 20 years ago.
In a labor shortage today when most postings on Linkedin gather 100+ applicants within 48 hours.

USB doesn't value the work life experience someone with 25 or 30 years of experience has. All they care about is the bottom line. The very best teams are teams built with people of all ages. Everyone brings different strengths to the team. USB considers workers obsolete as they turn 45. It's all about the bottom line. Bring in the trainees and RIF the experienced, loyal workers.

Couldn't agree more. Ageism is alive and doing great here.

@axb+1f4T0LIQ. It’s not an annoying post. If you don’t like the post then don’t comment or come onto a site that is for people to vent about their employer. Age discrimination is real and alive at usb. Let’s see how you feel when you’re 50+ and if you are 50+ already, don’t be surprised when you experience the age discrimination

These are such annoying posts. It's not age discrimination. A 19 year old with no experience will always be paid less than a 50 year old who worked for the last 30 years. You get replaced because you're more expensive.
