Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Leaving without giving notice

Already two colleagues left in a short time without giving notice.
Leaving without giving notice, is that some new trend here or am I missing something?
By doing so, you don't harm the company as much as you harm the remaining colleagues. I don't like everything in this company either and I want to leave, but I would never be so rude as to not give notice.

A year ago was in a company that in the same meeting, almost next sentence, they said "we are family" we are teammates, we sing, we dance, we believe in the mission aims and statements, etc.etc., and then "if someone doesn't agree with this there is the door" always made me laugh the level of typical American corporate double speak

Don't judge. Every individual has to do what is best for their-self.

People stay at jobs when they're paid well, respected, employment agreements/contracts, challenged, mentored (not tormentored), valued in a real way, trusted, protected, empowered, promoted, truly appreciated.

Please notice USian employers that pizza, cheapie gift cards, plastic trophies, paper certificates, and snack trains were not included in above.

unless they gave you a "raise" >7.5%, they respect work from home, give you generous time off (without guilt and games), and you aren't doing the job of 2 people, then fine. Show em respect. Otherwise, if you work 'hard' for that corporation and believe the endless propaganda/MSM, you're likely a su---r and a chump.

What does it matter? Even if they give notice, positions aren’t put up to be backfilled until they go thru a long drawn out BS process. Your still going to be short with or without notice

Wow. The company unilaterally decides if and when you get paid if you decide to quit . It's our right to quit at any time. It's employment at will. So, the company controls us and we have very few labor rights?!

"You have to work one day after your PTO to get paid."

Who instituted this corporate rule? Is this a Federal rule or a state rule?

Thanks.

Please do not listen to the response to take all of your PTO and resign. You have to work one day after your PTO to get paid.

Who cares? And why don't you worry about yourself? You don't know the reason why they left. It does harm the company because there would be no COMPANY without the employee!! Pretty soon they'll be using offshore reps for all their calls and if you think the complaints are out of control now, HA just wait.

You need to do what's best for your mental health and your wallet. If you choose to stay at that place, and enjoy the sh%t show, then that's on you. Life's far too short to deal with that nonsense, crazy making, and corporate mission statements-propaganda.

Not sure why salary is not a talking point, since loyal employees should feel like they can afford necessities and that the effort they're putting in is being paid back, so we assume we're already covering salary increases as part of your improvement plan. Besides that, better work life balance, such as much more PTO, sick days, WFH, pensions, work contracts, guaranteed stock options would be one good way to keep teammates. Another is offering real comprehensive health insurance/ tuition reimbursement, so employees can focus on work instead of those uniquely American stressors.

I worked in a department where two employees walked with no notice. The environment was hostile, threatening and the boss was bangin one of his managers. They strolled into the office around noon and then took off for a 2.5 hour lunch then left again after 5pm. The time they were in the office it was cringeworthy. Then later in the evening some staff received harassing texts or emails. The ones that walked were the smart ones. One new hire did give notice her third week of employment. She said no way. Another smart one. The rest of us need to evaluate our morals and ask ourselves why we didn’t do the same.

Employment at will doctrine from the US regime. Give them a 1 minute notice.

The trick to doing this is to not return from a vacation which uses up all of your PTO. In this way, you do not lose any PTO (Optum and UHG consider them grants, not accruals).

Also, before you go on vacation, you are able to write your coworkers a note that says how to complete your tasks. As a result, they have a guide to continue doing your tasks when you do not return.

Note, this approach should only be used if you have job set up, and have a coworker who will give you a solid reference should you ever need it.

I know several people who gave 2-3 weeks notice and leadership dragged their feet on formally announcing it so it seemed like a surprise to some but the resigning employee did their best.

Would Optum or any company give employees notice when they lay them off?

Loyalty is a two-way street and a notice, like respect, is something that is earned and not given. A dogs**t company like moptum commands neither.
