Working from home

For some of us who are working from home is it really productive and efficient? I do know a number of engineers and people leaders who are working from home. Ford top leaderships needs to look closely into this. It's a great opportunity for Ford to reduce headcounts.

Many companies have navigated the waters of large WFH resources and others that are required in a location. It is the nature of certain jobs to fit well with WFH and certain jobs that have to be in person. Hard to build a vehicle working from home!

But yes, the company has reaped lots of benefits of WFH during the pandemic. Divestiture of many buildings and material holdings. Lower water and energy bills. Less maintenance cost. Less equipment costs. Etc.

And productivity has not been an issue despite what the OP tries to claim. Lots has been accomplished, proving that WFH can work longterm.

Further there is a huge environmental benefit to WFH. Less heating and cooling of large buildings. Less gas and electric (yes charging electric vehicles has an environmental cost!) vehicles on the road consuming resources.

The only reason I can see for the company to require in office across the board is to justify their jab mandate. And that is just bad for business, individuals, and the environment. Let's see if leadership is really serious about bettering the company, or if pushing a political agenda is more important.

Don't understand the point of this post other than to troll. WFH has been a boon to productivity in some areas - was told that by out L4 and L3. In fact, my areas was able to be able to never go in an office again, because as a whole we were able to prove through out 200 and 2021 that we over delivered on objectives and got more work done than planned. I'm sure there are other areas that did not, as well as I am sure there are some roles that it is not effective to work from home......but that is different than reducing headcount.

I think the bigger issue and worry bead will be the company is setting up to become two different companies -those that can work remote everyday, and those that cannot. IT will create resentment and hard feelings for those that do have to go back into the office even under the hybrid plan. How is the company going to reconcile that - lower pay eventually for those that WFH full time vs. those that go into the office? Again, in my particular area, we could not have succeeded in meeting our hiring goals of software engineers without WFH, as less than 5% of those hired live in Michigan.....vast majority live outside Michigan, and they are not moving to Michigan. They already asked and that was a big "no-sale'.
