Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Fine place for those that lack skills

I don’t want to offend anyone, but one has to admit that this is becoming a place where those with great skills and experience are becoming undesirable. I believe that now everyone has at least one colleague who lacks skills but is progressing much faster than someone who really deserves it. Strange value system, isn't it?

They call those incompetent teams Sales and CX center. If you are a bonehead you have a job reserved in both places. Of course you could always see about helping chuckie, fran, mm, or the woke hr team. They are role models and case studies in total buffoonery.

Something like this has become so familiar to us all. I see here or there in this thread.

Those of us that have skills seem to get everyone else's work.

I have great skills and experience. 25 years with IBM mainframes! Expert-level COBOL programming. Can't beat my skills and experience. Seriously though, I find it hard to believe someone with up-to-date skills is becoming undesirable. The fact that some people without technical skills rise up faster than more skilled individuals is nothing new and is certainly not exclusive to Cisco. Many CEOs at the helm of very valuable companies are college drop-outs. More often than not, intelligent people are prone to having doubts and therefore speak with less confidence and softer than average testosterone-loaded red blooded sales folks, so they tend to get less noticed. That's just how the world works unfortunately. Look at the vaccination status: incredibly competent scientists see their lifework ridiculed by the likes of Joe Rogan or Donald Trump in a matter of minutes. Now to say skilled people are undesirable is quite a stretch!

I've actually seen individual contributors mocked for having skills. The culture reminds me of the Chernobyl incident.
