Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

CVX vs XOM bonuses

I’m a Chevron employee and am very pleased with our 1.5 corp factor for CIP. Any know how our bonuses compare with Exxons?

"XOM ... only hire the best staff": That is highly debatable. XOM trains their staff to be highly competitive and cut-throat with much higher differentials in salary advance rate and a 5-10% forced ranking "layoff" most every year. The result is not necessarily better performance, but rather deep silos and lack of broad-based decisions. What is true is that their worst folks leave and unfortunately bring that take no prisoners one upmanship mentality to Chevron, and here, despite all our half speak about diversely, managers love these aggressive brown nosers and rapidly promote them to lower middle management positions.

BS. They were not offering you $150 k unless you are way over promoted in chevron.

Exxon pay is 15% higher than CVX in most cases.

I recently applied for a job at XoM, made it through the interviews and received an offer. The pay was $50K below what I make at CVX and no bonus. I am a psg 24.

Chevron university recruiting has been terrible for a long time. We basically get the leftovers.

Back when I was involved in university recruiting, we systematically lost 'the best' to Shell, BP, and Exxon. No one in SR seemed to care. Their advantage? They identified 'the best', some while still undergraduates, and nurtured and cultivated their relationships until they were ready to graduate. Chevron waited until they had a year or two left, and thought offering internships was all we needed to do.

Back when XOM was across the street from Chevron Houston downtown, I would see Chevys and Hondas parked next to me in the Chevron garage, while I would see BMWs and Lexus' pulling into the XOM garage. That alone should tell you where each company's salaries are.

The higher pay is a myth. I got a big raise when I moved to CVX. My friend from college consistently made more from a total pay perspective.

Now, in the past XOM was more stable long term. Now I dunno that is the case. So XOM is in a tough spot when compared to CVX.

They used to also delay raises based on your rating. So even as a top third performer I would get raises every 16 months instead of 12.

Their base pay isn’t even that much higher. I compared mine to a (now ex) employee that worked there and we had the same type of job and same exact experience and they were literally only a couple thousand above me. And that’s assuming I get target only.

XOM pay is significantly higher than CVX but they only hire the best staff. You have to be the smartest and hardest working. 4.0 GPA from a top school. Most CVX staff would not make the cut at XOM, we tend to be the B/B+ crowd that liked to socialize a bit. XOM would be magna c-m laud, head of the track and debate teams, and considering medical school.

Don't know about XOM, but COP set a 1.8 multiplier.

You know Exxon doesn’t give bonuses. Their base pay is 1.5 x higher.

XOM does not give bonuses to rank and file. You need to be equivalent to PSG 25 or 26 to get them. I worked for both.
