Opportunity and willingness to promote varies widely across business lines in my experience. This actually seems to be a much bigger factor than the quality of the worker seeking promotion, although that is ultimately a factor as well.
I just got a promotion, big raise, and a hefty bonus. I’m here until they tell me to stop working, or until my manager leaves. Then who knows what will happen.
No matter how good you might be, there are no opportunities if you live outside of the "key" cities, that's for sure!
💯 % I left last year and moved into a much more senior role with a competitor and I'm making a lot more money leaving this train wreck.

I've been promoted 3 times so far. If things aren't happening for you OP, it's possible that "it's you". Not always, just saying. Everyone thinks they should be promoted. It's like asking someone to rate their own driving skill from 1-10. Amazingly, everyone is an 8-10, and yet...

Make the move! You won’t regret it one bit! If you are in tech and have skills they are definitely highly sought after! Look towards FAANG or similar tech companies for the most bump :)
I’m definitely not the company cheerleader right now but I can say I’ve been here for 15 years and have had so many amazing opportunities and my salary isn’t too shabby. That said I will have to leave in order to to continue my career growth solely due to the location strategy that is being implemented. This is of course extremely disappointing but probably a blessing in the end.
Yeah they do. In 4 years I've been promoted twice. Now are those promotions good? That's a different story. How easy it was for me is actually kinda concerning.
