Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How risk averse are you?

After joining the company, the employees are being brainwashed with "fear"... as a result, many of the colleagues "fear" about the unknown working somewhere else - hence they stay although they are not happy. Some also "fear" about the money as they need to put food on the table for their family.... I believe it depends on the risk that people are willing to take... but the longer you are working for the company, the more risk averse you will be...

@rqe+1f7da79b, sorry for pulling your comment into a new thread, but I agree with you. I've been here too long and, even though I'm tired of this company, I'm too afraid to risk my current job and take a leap into the unknown.

The comments that broadly stereotype urc and rtd employees as risk adverse are laughable and pathetic and show incredible organizational and corporate ignorance. This is a systemic and corporate wide issue for employees in all of the upstream and downstream. All employees whom shows up each day with a work ethic of don’t do anything to get me fired today embodies the exact same problem and should take a hard look at themselves in the mirror. If you show up each day with a work ethic of do nothing today to get fired … you have your answer, you need to find a new job in a different company for the sake of your own mental health and the health of your family. That is all I have to say on this topic.

You are right about URC/RTD being a third grade patent mill. Even these so called Patents that will be of no use to investors but the employee greed wants them to make their extra $650 (after tax) and it allows soulless attorneys to keep their job.

Everyone who joined URC after EPR is trained to be a suc-ker and incompetent of the highest kind. No exceptions. Very few good people joined but they left a long time ago.

@1zqg - Accurate observation. The way RTD/URC/EPR contributes value is by taking research risk and stepping into the unknown. The fear of failure by the research staff there is what has led to that organization falling from the uncontested thought leader in the oil and gas industry to a third-rate patent mill.

Dudes I worked at RTD which was formerly called URC. I have to tell you that people at URC/RTD were/are mostly pathetic. They continue to be fearful of bosses, the company and its processes.
It is amazing to see how these fearful mo--ns are balancing fear with their greed to please and their greed for some extra bucks and willing to seek their souls.

If I have to say I can confidently say that my URC/RTD colleagues were the worst set of human I ever came across in my entire life.

You don't pull the plug until you have something else lined up. That takes away almost all the fear.
