I was as overworked as everybody else and then suddenly my workload halved. Not just me, my entire team. How worried should we be?

OP - any update?
They probably are sending it to India. I’m sorry.
Very worried. Sorry
As a VP, all my work is useful and almost never diminishes.
All RCSA work has been put on hold, that was a big part of the schedule.
What a cluster that is turning out to be.
Was it useful work?
This is exactly what happened to us before we were laid off week before thanksgiving. All of a sudden work dried up and was being moved and then bam meeting scheduled and let go.
If you're in Risk you know the answer. Be very worried. Everyone here knows MN overstuffed this area and we are very redundant in what we do.
I wouldn't worry much. There has ben re shifting of the annual plan due to a reason that I've heard is related to a need to improve an important process, which needs fixing asap. And probably tools used to that process. I believe this was the cause of MN's retirement but the leadership doesn't want to say anything officially about that which we know is WF style of work.
Depends on the situation.
For example if Indians have been shadowing you for 6mo. Management starts talking about offshore trying to do the same work in parallel, that's a sure sign.
Managers before you're laid off often will lie to you and often people believe it because they don't want to think otherwise. They will make up a half a-s logical story so that you feel comfortable and keep working, and then one day your asked to go into a office and laid off.
I think a better question is how big is their problem? Is there a solution to their problem? Do they have a even bigger problem then they first thought? If its a serious problem that's unresolved, then I wouldn't worry about it. In fact I would ask for a promotion and a large raise, you could go to another bank and likely work the same problem for more money, all banks have similar problems. Its easy to, have a look at BOA, JPM, CITI, USB.. for these unresolved type problems, all these places will be looking for you with open arms and more money and a better title.
Really worried, this happened to several people I know before they got fired.
It would depend on a variety of factors, such as why did the work vanish? Is it a seasonal thing like what occurs for some LOBs? If it's something like that, I'd not worry.
Did they automate a big process that used to take a big chunk of your day? If so, worry would be warranted.
So for your individual job and the work that's disappeared, you'll have to ask yourself if it's a permanent or temporary disappearance.
Little red riding hood syndrome by the sounds of it.
why was it halved? where did the work go to?
I'm in risk management.
