Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Why should we care about "field" workers?

I keep seeing field workers talking about how tough they have it compared to the city slickers. I don't see why we should care about what GED red.necks have to say. You wanted to get a manual labor job so you could spend your free time drinking bud ice and watching football. Us office workers have actual goals we are striving for. Maybe in the future you can work smart and not hard.

As a former O& M, I have the upmost respect for our operators and mechanics working in the field. They keep the field running. Bottom line, without them this company is broke

The field workers are important (que Top G-n ending scene music) and should be rewarded for their hard work. Doesn't mean the office staff needlessly need to head into the office just because the field staff want us in. I guess misery wants company?

The arrogance in these replies is revealing, but not surprising. Many of us out here in the field have undergrad / grad degrees who chose to stay close to the well, because, when times are tough, you don’t need 200 office engineers. But yeah, we’re all just a bunch of mo--ns out here getting your profits out of the ground.

Field workers are the keystone to this company making money. If you don’t believe that you clearly don’t know what we do as a company.

This office worker does care about the field workers as they do work hard but im losing a lot of faith with them with their hatred towards thr office staff and demands of people needlessly going back to the office.

When it comes to working hours office workers are salaried so we are not paid for OT like hourly workers. They forget that or don't understand it in many cases.

Why don't you meet me behind the off campus site? Those are fighting words for this field trash

Just because on site field workers due to life choices have to work on site are jealous of people who made different choices and can work from home doesn't mean we need to head into the office. The company is obviously doing something right with the high profits all while working from home. MW is using the field workers as a pawn to get people back into the office for control. "The field workers are the ultimate heros (Top G-n ending scene music plays) of the company and the overhead need to get back to the office". None of its needed and we should progress a bit. Its all for control not for "collaboration". I can skip the locker room talk with the team and instead spend more time with family.

Can’t stand being in the field, very hostile frat boy environment. Young women hate it.

Field workers get half a year off and whine about office workers not putting in enough hours. Go figure.

I would put it a little mare tactfully. As an engineer, I spent my first two years on rigs (a field stint goes with the territory for some functions). Everybody is in their position based on their life choices. Yes, I’m grateful for everybody who continued to work on-site throughout the past 2 years. My current role can be done anywhere with a computer. Because some people have to turn valves that can’t be done remotely, should I have to commute to an anthill so old guys can see me work? I don’t think that’s a good use of time and resources.
