Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Musk just said that producing affordable EV trucks is impossible

And I believe him! If Bill and Jim think they can replace ICE F150s with the Lightning then they have been hitting the peyote.

Maybe Bill's face work is painful and he is on opi--ds. But the man isn't thinking straight. The rest of the family better get control from him or their little gravy train may run off the tracks.

There's no amount of pain that would ever force us to purchase an EV anything. Some might think or say cost. I would say nah, that's not it. Not even for $100 per gallon of gas.

A truck is meant to haul and tow. I tow a 9000lb 30’ travel trailer with my 5.4L F150. I get approximately 250 miles with the 31 gallon tank. No way could I ever tow that trailer with an electric truck and get more than 100 miles.

Elon is right. A model S battery pack costs about $15000 to build. A truck that tows would need a battery that is at least 3 times the capacity (and cost).

Until energy density goes up and price comes down a affordable REAL EV truck is a pipe dream.

I'll keep saying it. Tesla is being bought because they were innovators and people buy them just like Apple for the prestige, the ecosystem, and also because they like Elon Musk. FORD can put out their EVs, maybe better or equal products, but they're not going to be recognized and glanced over just like the majority of Androids in comparison to Apple. Most people could care less who any of the Ford leaders, CEOs, chairmen or anything are, no one fanboys over Farely, nor no one cares what Hau does. Musk on the other hand has a fan base as well and people trust and believe in him and his products. Lightning, Mache, Model E, team Edison, Ford pro, no one gives a flying f*ck.

@atw+1fBOVraH explain how BF has many truck platforms to his name? Inquiring minds want to know? BF did not plan those programs don't compare him to a real product guy like a Lutz /Iacocca / or Sperlich. Those guys knew what customers wanted.
In case you haven't noticed Ford has retreated from markets and segments.

How does Bill Ford get credit for Ford Trucks, other than his name?
The pattern at Ford is:
Greedy,Fat, Expanding Lazy Bureaucracy pushes Ford to the brink of bankruptcy;
Outsider brought in to fix the mess;
Ford bureaucracy gets restless and pushes out the outsider;
Greedy, Fat, Expanding Lazy Bureaucracy pushes Ford to the brink of bankruptcy;

Let’s be honest, after 119 years Ford should have worked out all the kinks and be profitably producing quality vehicles with ease. Instead Ford continues to stumble over its own shoelaces.
Contrast this with Tesla who in 10 years have gone from zero to EV leader.
Smart money is on the company who has produced more lately, than the one who has had 119 years to get their act together.

I’m old enough to remember Ford “leaders” publicly laughing at the Japanese imports, thinking they had nothing to fear. While Ford “leaders” were posturing and posing for press releases (instead of figuring out how to profitably produce the cars people wanted), the Japanese took over the small-mid size car market.
Same thing is happening today, only now Ford is a niche (truck) player with nothing else to fall back on.

I hope Ford gets their act together. First they have to find an outsider to bring in to fix the mess. The outsider must be an engineer with a proven track record otherwise Ford is doomed.

LMAO. Musk doesn't know what he is talking about! Has he or his niche company ever built a truck?? Ever?!?!?

Oh, that cyber thingy. That gets delayed, delayed, and more delayed. Will it ever get in production? Musk fan boys can dream all they want but they won't be sporting a cyber truck anytime soon. Ford had an electric truck in production in the 1990s!

Bill Ford in comparison has many successful truck programs on his resume.

Musk will succeed as he thinks outside the box
Ford will ultimately fail as it thinks within the current parts closet.
Just pop the hood of a Tesla and a Ford, remove the plastic trunks and compare.
Tesla=simple elegant design, each part fit for purpose
Ford=rats nest of parts from the existing parts closet

The Chinese companies are following Musks lead.

Do not underestimate Ellon. Unlike Billy he is a self-made man. Successful unlike Bill who is clueless. Ellon is an engineer. Just look what they do at Space X. Bill nor any other Ford family member can't even run the Lions.
JF. Well, I still want to see what he has delivered? Most of the top brass have been in positions to make a difference and have done nothing but blame the very bureaucracy they created. Hau a political animal. Kumar the GRIMM REAPER. Again, all yes men.
All comes down to execution. which we have failed at numerous times since the mid 90s.
